Betterscanning 35mm ANR glass

I've only heard good things about the MF holders from betterscanning.com and I'm certainly getting one to use with an Epson V500. However, I haven't found any information at all about the 35mm insert. Has anyone tried it? Does it improve quality significantly?

mike -- get a piece -- you'll love it -- keeps the film nice and flat -- i pop down my film strip then put the glass down over the strip -- and that's it -- i have a MF holder, too -- along with the ANR glass -- makes a world of difference for sharpness consistency...

When I bought my insert, I skipped 35mm because I noticed the Epson V700/750 35mm holder does a good job at holding the film flat. For 120 I'd say the ANR glass plate is crucial.

My 750-M comes tomorrow and I'm planning on getting the MF holder and ANR x 2.

I was curious as to what difference is seen with the stock 35mm bulk scanner and scanning 35 with the MF holder and ANR glass. I assume that with a dual holder you get twelve frames vs the stock twenty four. Is it worth the extra work with most of your 35mm?

How reliable is this info? Rumour or is this from the horses mouth? I love my MF ANR set and have been humming and hawing over picking up some of the 35mm inserts, but I just hate the epson holder so much I'd rather wait and pay double for a full 35mm set.

I have some experience using the Epson V700 with genuine Epson 35mm film-holder and ANR glass-inserts (from better-scanning). A while ago I posted some photos about it, that show the difference with and without the glass-inserts:

From my experience - and I have used this scanner exclusively for 2 years 135 and 120 film - the ANR inserts improve the quality of the scans a lot of the film is really curly and bent.

However, there is a very simple, effective and cheap solution available:

Just keep the film tightly rolled with the emusion side outside (!!) for at least one night. Afterwards, the film will be that flat, that it can be easily mounted into the genuine Epson holder and scanned without using the glass-inserts.

Wow, that film is really curly. I may have been lucky but when I get 35mm film back from the lab it's always pretty flat... so I guess I'll wait for the 35mm holder for now. Thanks for the pics, maddoc. The results I got with the Epson holder are actually good so far (for web) but I'm still struggling with the Vuescan/Photoshop workflow...

Mike, your scans look very decent ! With the combination of Epson V700 + Vuescan, I never got along, found the original Epson software much easier to use. However, I use Vuescan with my Nikon Coolscan 4000ED and it just works fine.
