Bicyclists - how do you carry your camera?

Lot's of great ideas here. Thank you all for your contributions. A handlebar or top frame bag appeals to me the most. I just need one secure enough to safely cradle my Barnack. Aside from my Minox cameras, that's the smallest one I have.

The handlebar tripod mount with a QR plate might really be "the thing" for carrying a TLR. I like that idea.

Wearing or carrying a camera in a pocket, a backpack, fanny pack, or hanging off of a strap of some kind is least appealing, mainly because it's hot down here in Texas, and I don't like to have anything touching me besides my clothing. Not to mention that whatever touches me is going to get soaking wet. Electrojanis, I actually like the gas mask bag because of the way it attaches and the fact that it could easily be washed, but I don't think I could stand to wear it.

I think I've got plenty of ideas now, but I'd love to hear any other solutions that you all employ.

I usually either take a camera that I do not mind having around neck (usually diagonally across my chest), or in a shoulder bag that is usually resting across my back. If there is an occasion for image making, as Moriturii says, I stop and walk with the camera.

I can understand your wish that nothing should touch your body quite well... I personally hate most backpacks when riding a bicycle. They will make my back awfully sweaty and it gets really uncomfortable quite soon. However I can set the gasmask bag so low it leaves most of my back free so the sweat can evaporate. The bag get's sweaty too though... Sometimes it has white salty lines on the straps and on the back in the part that is against me... But then I just wash it.

I guess the gas mask bag I'm using might be hard to get outside Finland anyway...

Back pack with one body (sometime two) and three lenses. I'm trying to drop some excess fat, and I figure moving the extra weight equates to a few more calories burned. 🙂 Besides, if I only had one lens it would be to long or short. :bang: 😀 😀

I am a keen bike traveler and while on tour I usually attach an Ortlieb handlebar bag on my bike for a small camera and other things I need at hand. For a short evening ride with a camera I just use a small Domke bag or a messenger bag.

I put my Nikon FE2 in the side pocket of my jacket (yes, it fits, with 50mm/f1.4 on). I've taken many shots without dismounting. (Usually, I do stop for the occasion😉). Additionally, I find the bike seat to be quite convenient when I want long exposure times and don't have tripod handy. Don't like camera bags, and in general I dislike any extra gear, it just gets in the way of taking photos.
