That hood fits the 50mm f1.8, 35MM f2.8 and 35MM f3.2
Any differencr between that and the hood that fits the 50mm f1.9 and 35mm f3.5, or is that hood just newer and labelled for the (then) currently available lenses?
I think I owe Victor a few pints, not just a cup of coffee.

It looks like Richard has been bitten by the Canon RF bug. So, are we seeing Canon items nearing the price of Leica? My hood for my 50 Cron was 50 buck USD. Maybe the Canon items are rarer.

Good. I feel better. Is it just the labelling that's different though? The hood I bought fits on my 50 f1.9 and the 50 f1.8.

i read that, though they are similar, this one is a bit narrower and wider. therefore it works with more lenses (all the 35mm) while the more common hood marked 50/1.9 will vignette with one of the 35mm canon lenses.
taken as a grain of salt please as i have only read this - no personal experience.

We are witnessing what happens when OCD meets OCD on eBay (every seller's dream).
I actually put that in my watch list, but deleted it after the first few bids.

I have both -- the older one (f:1.9 50mm, f:3.5 35mm) and the newer one (50mm f:1.8, 35mm f:2.8, 35mm f:3.2). The newer one is both wider and taller than he older one; i.e., you can slip the older one into the newer one. The newer one is also shallower than the older one, with a larger viewfinder cut-out.
The newer one is indeed harder to find, but that current price seems a bit far out. I got one on ebay not too long ago, without the case, for much (much!) less.
cheers,
david

The end price was reasonable, I think not. The last THREE Leica screw mount lenses (50, 90, 135) I bought cost about $10.00 more than this hood. Canon rf prices are a little insane right now.

Agreed. That's why I noticed that heavily brassed IVSB... I wonder if it too will go crazy before it ends?

The crazy price is because this hood has different ENGRAVING from the majority of the rectuangular 50/1.8 hoods. They engraving normally has each compatible lens on a row by itself. I have two of those, both were quite cheap, thank you. (I got the second one just for the case.)
It also looks really mint.
I think the top four bidders are all "every Canon variant" collectors. One's Peter Kitchingman, but he didn't win.
