I'm teetering on picking up a Nex 6 on which to use M lenses...but then I started thinking about the R lenses I have.

Apart from issues of size and weight has anyone tried any of the big Telyts on the Nex? Or the Macro Elmarit? How does focus peaking cope with very small depths of field?

I know this is DSLR country but if the Nex could manage it they'd get more use.

Personally, I think mag focus is better if u are in situations that require razor thin focusing. Ymmv. I believe most if not all of the csc cameras have at least mag capability.

Currently only Ricoh gxr w/ m module and Sony Nex have both focus peaking and mag. U can get r lens adapter for both. The next gen Fuji xp/xe may have both plus split image as well given what they premiered in the x100s.

Hello Michael

From my experience with the NEX-7 I can say long lenses are very usable on this camera.
But with lenses heavier than 500g the setup becomes unbalanced, I can only recommend
heavy lenses with tripod collar.

Focussing works very well, with or without focus peaking. The shallower the DOF, the better.
With focus peaking, you get a good indication how far the zone of sharpness extends.

I'm using the Apo-Telyt R 4/280 on the NEX, and the 1.5X crop factor is a welcome bonus.

The example below has been taken with the 4/280 + Apo-Ext.2X, resulting in 850mm equ. focal length.
The whole setup weighs only 2.6kg, a clear advantage over fullframe.

Kind regards

Ronald

Hi Ronald,

Impressive (and looking well fed!)
Yes I can see that weight distribution will be all wrong but your comments regarding focussing are valuable and will help me to make my decision.

best

Michael

I tried to use a Canon 400mm FD lens on my NEX5 and focusing via the LCD was very unwieldly even with a monopod. I have since sold both body and lens and have not tried any long lens with my NEX6.

Big lenses on the Nex

Zeiss Contax 180mm 2.8 works very well on Nex 5n.
In fact, all those older Contax lenses work well.
