I searched the web for info on the so-called "big logo M6" with only a large "M6" on the front instead of "Leica M6". Not much to be found. What is the general consensus about this variation? How frequent is it? Is it better than the other M6s? Is it "worth" more/less or is equal? What would be a good price for a better user version?
TIA for your feedback.

I have a Big logo M6 🙂

I think the Big M6 is totally better.
Another M6 have 2 leica writing near each other in front. That is too much.

I think I recall reading somewhere that when Leica Camera AG was split off from the Leitz company and the red dot on the front was changed to read "Leica" instead of "Leitz", someone decided that the name didn't need to appear twice on the front. So some of the earliest cameras made with the Leica red dot (as opposed to the Leitz one) had only the large M6 logo. I don't know when or why production was switched back to include the Leica name above the model name.

Otherwise, the cameras are entirely identical. I imagine collectors have driven up the prices to some extent for the slightly rarer "big logo" cameras, as some will want every variation for a complete collection, but as users these cameras are no better or worse than any other pre-TTL M6.

I also have a mint one, and it is for sale down here in France...
😉

Sure some collectioners would increase their value, but they can be found mostly at the same price... it should be te same as the regular Leica M6, as they are the same.

I remember a thread on this matter right here but cannot find it anymore, it was saying something a bit diffrent, like about being built with a batch of another model (M4 or M4P top plate) at the time Leica was leaving Solms... back in 1988 ...

But I never did see or feel any diffrence and anyway, to my taste, they look better with this simplified inscription

I thought it was some anniversary model that had the big M6? One run to commemorate something. These have been all over ebay of late- 5 or 6 of them have sold in the last month, with no real premium.

As I recall the big M6 version was devised to combat grey imports. I think they were only sold in Europe, and were intended to stand out if sold into other markets. There was a lengthy thread either here or on the L-Camera forum about it some time ago.

And no, they're not worth any more money.
