Big Mini

Depends.... does he want hipster approved cameras ? If not you can get a Canon EOS 300x + 40mm f2.8 pancake for $100. Small and is better in every way than a premium compact.

If needs a pocketable hipster approved cam then Nikon L35AF if they don't want stylus/mju ii

Great minds think alike!

I’ve always wanted an mju ii. I got this stylus for $20 but I dropped it and it still works perfectly, but I have this issue now. Any idea how to fix? The cover is very “sticky” sliding back and forth unless I put pressure on it while sliding which is pretty annoying. I finally got a wrist strap in the mail so I don’t drop this thing again.

The best deal going these days is the original Olympus Stylus/Mju. I have a couple of them. Hard to beat for the money and it is pocketable. I'd say get one before they join the others with a massive price hike. They are smaller than the Konica and a little slower than the Mju II. That is a speed demon.

Some of the zoom cameras are pretty good as well. I shot a roll with the Leica Z2X and I was surprised how good it was. You can still get the original Contax TVS for not a lot of money as well. The TVS is a tank. I've dropped mine a few times and you can't even tell. Not a mark on it. The Fuji Cardia/Super DL in both the zoom and regular versions are nice too and are clad in aluminum. None of those cameras will cost $300 either.

I just realized I have way too many cameras.

If it's anything like mju II then it's really easy to remove the sliding door. Once you do that you will probably find that the small steel ball dropped out of its position and is now creating a friction when sliding the door.

I once had a Big Mini and the thing I liked best about it was that the auto flash does not kick in before you really need it. Many of these P&S cameras will fire the flash every time unless the sun is shining straight into the lens.

Plus my Big Mini (HG BM-300) has a switch on the back to change flash mode, including off. I need a pen or other sharp object to push the buttons, but I think that is a safety device, as a single push of the correct button rewinds the film.

Most of the point and shoot cameras I have owned didn't hold up.

OTOH the Olympus Stylus (mju) seems more solid and well-built.
After years of regular use mine is still reliable and fully working.

FWIW I gave away my Stylus Epic (mju II) but kept this one.
I bought a second, just in case. I too recommend this model.

Oh yeah? How'd you go about that exactly?

Yeah I have an original stylus and it rules. I had a t4 super a long time ago and honestly to me it's the same thing. A while back I was leaving my apartment with a million things in my hands and I dropped the Stylus and it literally bounced down a set of 5 concrete stairs. Still works flawlessly and the image quality is pretty amazing for what it is.

Had a gr1s at one point and did I love that camera. Left it on a bus, noticed almost immediately, but had recently blown my knee out so when I took off running after the bus that was 20 feet away, I collapsed on the sidewalk in agony. I don't think I'll ever stop being pissed about that. But yeah the downside of that camera was how fragile it felt. I want an mju II so bad but they're going for $300+ now.
