Big old lenses and small new cameras

For those of you who worry about using big old lenses on small cameras the attached shows an example. If you are a little ham-fisted a larger lens gives you something to hold onto...this set up although bulky and a bit bonkers seems to sit in the hand well and has a steadying effect.

Mind you it does lack the compact pocketability of Nex + CV 21 f4.

I still like using my 21mm F2.8 MC Rokkor on my Nex 3's.

It does handle pretty well and does everything I need to do with it. And it is a great lens, one of my favorites with film or Nex.

Not saying I don't use large 135 format lenses at times.
When I do it's on a 5D or native film reflex body.

I tried the NEX 5 early on with some of my Zuiko and Contax slr lenses.
The 1.4/85 looked and felt like a mouse holding a bazooka!

PK fit MC Cosinon-W 28mm - much bigger than the Samsung 30mm pancake but better contrast rendering for B&W.

Edit:- Oops! now I see that this is supposed to be just for Nex. Oh well, it won't do any harm to remember that there are other APSC mirrorless options available 🙂

Not a NEX camera, but attaching a bellows unit to a modern digital is always fun. If I had a Panny GM1, I could attach the bellows to that - but that would be a bit silly.

Thinking about going the route of a Nex 6 + Zhongyi Lens Booster pretty soon for my old SLR lenses. I love the idea of the A7, but it's just not going to hit my price range for a while. Anyone else doing that at the moment? Don't really care about shooting brick walls or anything. I would mostly use it for portraits. Has anyone had a bad experience with the handling of SLR lenses on the APS Nex cameras?

I've been doing that and am pretty satisfied. However, there are issues that come with speed booster since corners are smeared AND plane of focus is no longer a plane but a parabolic shape. I did not know this until I took a group shot with Canon 35mm f/2 concave with speed booster. Person in the center is tack sharp, 3D look but people farther away from the center get more and more blurred. So as long as you don't need a flat field of focus, it should do you fine.

Thanks a lot for the response, Classique! It's definitely a special-use adapter, from what I've read.

I was thinking I could get a "dumb" adapter for my LTM lenses for when sharpness takes precedence over speed/bokeh... (or use the kit lens)

A couple more examples, with apologies for the pictures, the first is 60/2.8Macro Elmarit R. This works very well but there is a problem. Handheld OK (if it is possible) but if you want to use a tripod or mount you are a bit stuck. No tripod mount on the lens and would you trust the Nex tripod mount to hold that lot? Nope.

This one is a bit extreme. 560/6.8 Telyt. I haven't taken any sensible pix with this yet, looking for a bracket to bring the centre of gravity forward so I can use it with tripod. It's OK with the shoulder stock.

Yes, it is pretty much playing. I bought the Nex to use M lenses but it is nice to know that R can work too. As to size, as I have said before, the big SLR lenses can be something of a benefit since they do give you something to hold on to when the camera is so small.

Truly ridiculous indeed and of limited use, but it doesn't fit in a pocket although it will go down a trouser leg!

I can't compete with that 800 Telyt if anyone has one?
