"Bit of fog"?

Excellant lens, hard coated, and the front element comes off with a spanner. I think I used needle nosed pliers to clean mine. 30 minute job; most of the lens just unscrews.

VERY sharp, see my Telephoto gallery for shots.

Sounds good to me, certainly if it stays that low... :)

Thanks!

I'm suspicious since they don't have a picture of the 'fog' or any of the glass for that matter. They do have a good rating though...

I have bought some very fogged Summarit's and had them professionally cleaned at Essex. The seller attempted to get pictures of the fog, but it is very hard to photograph. The Summarit is soft-coated; you can also look in my Gallery for the end-result.

I ignored that one :) This lens is going higher than I care to - but I snaged a Jupiter 11 for $15 instead... :D

Makes for an interesting day on the 'bay. A J11 and a J12 for $35 combined. Hopefully they're both good lenses, but at least these are cheap enough to risk it.

The Nikkor should fetch closer to $70., even with the fog. I picked up a user condition lens with a few marks in the coating for under $50. It is a very sharp lens; the machining is better than the FSU lenses. This translates to smoother focus and less deviation in quality among lenses.

BUT: Unless the Nikkor lens is marked with a 'C' on the barrel for Contax (and Kiev) cameras, it will not focus properly. The Nikon S-Mount is designed around the Leica 51.6mm focal length. The difference in focus will be several inches with a 135 lens.

It says "c" in the ad, but lack of certainty (can't see it in the photos) means I didn't want to go very high on it. As I said, though, I did get a J11 for cheap, so I still get a 135 to play with...

I saw the heading that the lens was marked "C" for contax. I have seen some sellers think that the red "C" on the front element retaining ring stands for Contax when it really stands for "C"oated. I always like to see the 'C' on the barrel photographed so that I can be sure. I have this lens in S-Mount, 'C'ontax mount, and LTM.

My Contax version is the all-black version, not to be confused with the black-and-chrome version...

Red C, Black C, single quote, double quote, African or European Swallow?
