Black Canon P on eBay

Beautiful Black Paint, Canon P, for sale on eBay by Kevins Cameras. My wallet isn't deep enough for this camera, but she is pretty looking. Aren't the black ones pretty rare?

Is it me, or does this camera look like a repaint? Shouldn't a black P be brass colored underneath instead of chrome? And it looks like nearly all the white filled engravings are faded/gone. The way they might be if they were black to begin with.

Surely a black camera would have white engravings? Unless someone filled those in to make it stand out less…

That is strange indeed. All the images i've seen of Black P's always had white lettering.

Taking a look at this one, it certainly seems to be a Black Canon P. Take note of the self-timer lever. It has an engraved dot unlike the silver version. This Canon P seems to have just been "Blacked" out leaving only a few of the white markings, such as serial number.

Canon Ps are nice to paint. Here is one I did. It's a little cheaper. 🙂

If I may ask an innocent bystander question: I take it there is no list of official black serial numbers for the Canon P, then? How do you tell if it's real?

I mean, anybody can engrave a dot ...
