I am a Junkie (Camera Junkie that is) and I love those Black Electros. I have a GTN and GT. Have owned an MG-1 and other GT's and GTN's. I just couldn't resist the Electro 35 Proffessional that came up on the auction site last night. Now I am looking at the pics closer. It looks like the pro model. It's marked poffessional on the back as it should be. Are they meant to have a Proffessional tag on the front also?

A friend of mine posted his pic of this on another forum, and there was no additional badging. My guess is to say No, there is none, AFAIK. Others may have more or better info.

From what I have learned the early versions of the Professional dose not have the front tag only the rear below the test plate. The later versions are marked front and back. The early version also has a 4 screw bottom plate.

I think I have seen them with a silver scripted 'Professional' badge on the front, but I don't know whether that was standard for all of them.... From my recolection of the yashica guy's web site I don't think too much is known about this variant. Cool camera though!

Electros reliability.

Electros reliability.

I have purchased a couple of these on ebay and both arrived "dead on arrival". Neither one had lights or any meter reading, the lens fires only at 500th. Is this pretty typical?
I took apart the black one and could not find any broken wires so I guess its in the electronics. May have to pull apart the other one.

Thanks

I recived the Electro 35 Professinal today. Hum usual problems. The shutter was working at 1/500. Installed a battery and nothing. Off came the top and bottom covers. Top power lead was off. Repaired the wiring and looks like the electronic are ok. Just finished cleaning out the reamins of the POD. Tomorrow I will fit a new one and reassemble the camera. It appears to be an original early model professional. Has the Professional tag below the test panel. 4 screw base plate with silver battery cover. The only other thing I noticed is the ASA dial is marked 10-400 ASA not the noted 12-400.

Ok the electics are fixed. Wire repaired. The new POD is installed and it makes the reasurring CLUNK on film advance now. Metering seams to be ok. One last problem Shutter is sticky. Stays open at slow speeds, 1/30 flash setting so I assume 1/30 or slower are sticking faster speeds work ok.
