The 2nd M3 looks repainted to me. One of the sellers had zero (0) past transactions. For me to do business the seller has to have a positive track record.

the need for speed
Larry, a black M3 is just a black camera versus a chrome one. I prefer black cameras, but I never pay "collectors" premium for them. It is just a light tight box with some essential gears and a shutter,
From a practical standpoint, a chrome one is better. It doesn't absorb heat in hot, sunny climates and they scratch less. They do "stand out" a bit more, unless you can find a satin chrome finished T-shirt! The black ones tend to melt into a black or dark jacket or sweater, You also get a lot of comment on brassy black M's. "Oh, what a nice camera. Is it a Leica" and the "Nice looking camera - is it digital?" Both of these this morning!
Tom -- where do you get yours painted? how long does it take? do you have a pic of your beautiful brassy all blacks?
i am of two minds on stealth for me, as i seem to stand out in crowds (long red hair doesn't exactly fade into the background).... all black or put some insanely girly leather on a chrome like pink or red so no one would take me seriously

So does anyone know why the speeds are different on the second "Betriebesk" M3? Seems a little odd.

Paint it yourself
Paint it yourself
Buy a user M3 get the proper tools to take it apart strip the chrome and paint it yourself, can all be done for under £500 (including buying the body) and after a few years of use you can always repaint it. Leica Ms compaired to digital SLRs are not really that expensive so I think its worth a bit of DIY. I bought a user M2 weekends work and have a cheap black M2.

I'm amazed at the knowledge of the RFF users to pick out small details of the models and know how they do or do not match against what was produced at the time.

I don't know about you guys, but I like how this looks. If the innards were fine, I'd have no problem whatsoever shooting this; I'd like it much more than a factory-new MP for that matter.
After all there's also people who are into rat bikes and stuff.

I don't mind having a camera with a bit of brassing but I draw the line at rust, it maybe was originally black paint but has been repainted the top plate has really thick paint, looks like the base was off a chrome camera and the lens mount has black paint on it.
