If I was in the market (too dear for a pensioner;) it would be chrome,
stays looking new longer and easier to keep that way.
I've never ever understood the cachet of a brassed black camera, looks professional? Nah! just looks knackered  unobtrusive? still looks like a camera:rolleyes:
Funny long ago, the black was the cheap option so newspapers bought them to save money!
Thats what a couple of old news photogs told me.
But as they say--"whatever floats you boat"
My Bessa R2 is green cos thats what they sent me!!

Black is so much better at cooking your film on a sunny day. Now chrome vulcanite? THAT would be cool!
They could always do one in white vitreous stove enamel as Ilford did in the 50's that wouldnt cook the film or the sensor ;)

Dads camera.

A PINK LEICA? Should the black satin case have lace trim or not? The custom case makers are going to have a field day with this one. After all, a proper camera shouldn't be seen in public wearing the same outfit two days in a row!

It should also have a Hello Kitty sticker instead of the red dot. Talk about a classic.

chrome

I ordered a chrome. it is my second RF camera after a short 2 month stint with the Epson RD1s in mid 2007 (i sold it).

I had originally wanted to buy back a RD1s now in 2009 but was worried about the perpetuality of service.

I had been apprehensive about spending on an expensive cam with all the problems you read about in here in the rangerfinder forum. But I found this discount programme in the UK (I am from Singapore) giving a cashback of 650 pounds. After 15% VAT deductions, I am poised to purchase this circa of USD3000 with 7% GST (Goods and Services Tax) in Singapore, inclusive of shipping and insurance.

Black

Black

I just called the dealer in the UK and he confirmed that I got my M8 in last night's shipment and it is a black one.

I voted for the chrome and ordered a chrome but I changed my order to a black more for more stealth and conspicuity like many have said. Fortunately, they had enough blacks to send one to me.

Now the lens choice inssues.....:(

Had a silver M4, black M6, etc., so decided on a compromise with a panda this time. It wasn't the silver knobs that got me, but the finish. More paint-like than the standard M8. Same price though. Got mine at Kurland last week. They still have a few in stock. Liked the 8.2, but difference of $1500 is a leica lens or a handful of cv lenses.

I ordered mine in black paint.

Mine is an M8 in black chrome. Paint I would have really loved, but I own a black chrome M5 that's as old as I am, and it aged very gracefully, see here.

It's in the back in this shot, the black is turning to grey where your fingers go. Someday my M8 will look like that too:)

curious to know what people think about the original black M8 vs. the black paint M8.2 (but not quite enough to start a new thread).... any opinions out there?

Hi guys,
don't buy new M8's. For example here: https://www.leicashop.com/vintage/leica-mkameras-c-1000_1003_100347.html, you can find mint M8s with warranty for about 2300 EUR.

Currently, they have a black AND a chrome version, both are 1 year old....they update their website every month and get new cameras every month. Yes, LeicaShop is much more expensive than ebay or many different leica-selling sites, but this one is REALLY, and I mean REALLY reliable and fair source.

If they write 'mint', the body really is mint. A=new, A-=almost new (like package was already opened), A/B = very very small signs of use....

LeicaShop is the professional official Leica dealer for Austria...

How many lenses can you get for 1500-2000$, that you save....?

If you just use the leica.com website, you can find many official Leica shops also in U.S.

I mean, for 4500 EUR you can buy an 'almost new' M8 and 2 superb lenses....

I was in the LeicaShop yesterday and had a look at the M8's, they have only 3 really tiny scratches (like 0,25 mm long) at the bottom - that are not even scratches, you'll see them only when look like from a 5 cm distance...
