RFF,

Somewhere at some point in time I've seen Tom Abrahamsson with an all black soft release (AR-1 Style) for the Nikon F or F2.

However, I have NEVER seen one for sale.

If somebody can point me in the right direction as to where I can find one for purchase, I'd be forever thankful. I am looking forward to outfitting a black Nikon F with one of these or my black Nikon F2AS.

Thanks for your time and efforts.

Kindly,

Ivan Uskokovic

Ivan, I got a handful of these in Tokyo some years ago. It was at one of the big camera shows and I was not a Nikon product. I have been looking at the possibility to make my own, with some improvement (spring loaded) and dome shaped top. It is considerably more complicated than the M- style Soft release as it requires 4 different parts in clouding the spring. RFf would be first to know about if and when they are done.

As far as I remember, Nikon never made them in Black. I have several of the original Nikon AR-1 Soft Shutter Release. Also have the cheaper generic ones I bought for$1 each...
And of course several of Tom's soft Shutter release...

Ivan, I have the AR-1 permanently mounted on my F2. I have never seen it in black. The release is black, but the screw in part is chrome.

Tom, such a device would be most desirable to a lot of people here. The AR-1 fits the screw mount Leicas (with the collar removed, of course), so that would be a wonderful accessory for the Barnack set.

The AR-1 actually does not fit barnacks all that well (atleast IIIc onward)
I use one on my IIIf RD ST and if tightened fully, it causes enough friction on the release that the camera will actually slip instead of winding. I use a few small rubber washers to keep the AR-1 off the release.

I would not reccomend using an AR-1 on a Leica. I can't speak for the generic's, as they may work better being a bit different in design.

YES and Tom if you could make them a lot lighter that would be great! The chrome plated brass is quite heavy.
