Black paint serial numbers
So I came across to 2 "IID's" according to the website I was looking at. The first one's serial number is 325xx, and the other one was 1188xx. The 1188xx one has a dial at the front for slower shutter speeds, which I already knew it was a iii, because I have one, and as for the other one, it looked like a IID. So is the website wrong about the 1188xx one? Thanks

I might be wrong for both of them, but the 325xx one is a i, according to cameraquest, but it's a IID..

A lot of them were upgraded by Leica to whatever the owner wished. You'll come across a lot of Leica I cameras turned into Leica II and even Leica III but keeping the Leica I serial number.

Ohh, so it's just conversions, so the serial numbers on screw mount ones doesn't really matter haha. Thanks guys

I guess it's a really good idea to collect all BP Leicas that have their serial numbers painted black. You should open a museum for them!

My Hove Pocket Leica Book shows 1188xx to be a 1933 chrome III. 325xx shows as a 1930 model I, so the one in question would be a factory conversion to the II (D).
