I have a 500CM with a A12 and A24 back. Now there is not much film being made in 220 anymore and a couple people have told me I can put 120 film in the A24 back. I have tried it and cannot get it to work correctly.

So, can I put 120 film in the A24? What is the secret to get it to advance correctly?

Am going to take my blad to Guatemala at the beginning of March and although I plan on mostly b&w, the tropics can call for color. I don't really want to spend more $$$$ as I don't use the blad all that much.

Thanks in advance.

I use 120 in my A24 backs. There are a number of tutorials online, as to film loading the A24. The trick is in starting the film in the insert. Spacing will not be uniform. My backs are the later model with dark slide holder. If you have questions, drop me a PM.

You can definitely use 120 in an A24 as I used to do it a lot until I bouight a couple of spare A12s to go with the one I got with the camera.

As I understand it, the gearing is slightly different to accommodate the longer film and, consequently, so is the spacing between frames. This means I only usually get 11 on a roll rather than 12.

A24s are still worth a few $$ so why not see if you can trade it? The only 220 film I know you can get here in the UK is Kodak Portra. Bit of a shame as 220 / A24 would be great when travelling.

Yes, I was looking at B&H film department and they only show four films in 220 format. All are color negative film.

I am going to Guatemala for a month and was thinking about taking the 'blad and TriX but the tropics call for color. I have an A12 and A24 but have not used the 'blad much at all thus the search for another magazine.

Options for the trip include an M2 and R6.2 in 35mm, 501CM or X100 or M9 for digital. Thinking M2 or X100 as the primary purpose of the trip is to study Spanish for a month.
