Bloomberg article on camera industry

Not going to happen. The masses like to travel light plus the apps you can get for smartphones can out perform your present 4/3's camera. What I expect to see next is camera's like yours will have the ability to download apps. Seems the tide has turned. First it was post about film being killed off by digital. Now it's DSLR's & P&S being threatened by smartphones.

Same thing with records, When CD's came out they all said
records were doomed, but no records are still here and
turntables are being built better than ever.

This would be a good outcome, camera companies abandon low end P&S stuff and focus on quality and compact systems like m43 and full frame that provide better alternatives to phones for the enlightened. But could a smaller "niche" market support every company? Certainly not every model in each company. I think most people would buy into the idea that a cell phone is great for snapshots and social media but when you want vacation photos or important events you should have a dedicated camera to use.

I dont believe a cell phone and apps can out perform an actual camera except for P&S, however the best camera is the one yo have with you, and for the majority of people its their cell phone.
