Blue Dot Redux

So, after reading 50k+ posts on the M8, I still haven't heard what function the Blue Dot plays!

It's the self timer indicator...

I still find it hard to believe that Leica would put that obvious of a dot onto the face of the M8. Surely, they could have gone with a much smaller hole?

actually for the viewfinders led displays intensity adjustment... indeed not very likely that achim heine would allow a blue dot for such a trivial function. the camera is measuring light intensity already ttl so why have a separate sensor?

Then again, the DPReview review at http://www.dpreview.com/articles/leicam8/page3.asp says that it's a brightness sensor used for adjusting displays to ambient light.

oh oops.. I guess dpreview confirmed that the dot is NOT for the self timer. I did read from some other website which indicated that the dot was for the self timer... I agree though, since the TTL metering is already in effect, it shouldn't take another dot just to measure the light for internal LED display..

Well, unless you'd want the LEDs to change brightness when you change aperture using the TTL meter doesn't seem such a great idea.. 😉
