Well, I have a comment.

Guilty or innocent, this incident unfortunately highlights the darker side of our craft, the connection with the adult industry, which is about as seedy as you can get. 🙁 This "industry" is deeply entwined with the drug scene and the commercial sex scene, and yes, organized crime. 🙁

I'm not a prude at all, far from it. I can appreciate such things as the "darker" photos occasionally shown by one of our Canadian members, and I think I have a very good feeling for what is art and what is porn, and yes, there is a difference.

It shows that being a model for such works is not as glamorous as some think. 🙁

I still think the jail time is excessive. In some other parts of the country he'd get maybe 5 to 7 years. Here in Delaware I've seen drunk drivers get 30 months OR LESS for killing someone in a car accident.

And please note that I'm NOT putting down Virginia or the South here. It may be the case that the folks in Virginia are the right thinking ones, and the OTHER regions of tthe US are too lax in sentencing.

I have to disagree. He has not accepted responsibility...he only apologized to the jury for having to see his photos and videos..

While he may not have directly caused her death he did contribute to it..

It wasn't the death that got the most time -- it was the totality of the circumstances.

If she'd died because she'd given herself an overdose of morphine, that she'd gotten on her own, he would have been acquitted; if he'd helped with the injection, he might have gotten a year or two.

But he was convicted of supplying her with the morphine, and then apparently of attempting several sexual acts with her dying body. When you pile all of that together, with the attendant publicity (judges are human) there's going to be a stiff sentence. I also think it's likely that the sentence will be reduced on appeal. That's often the case with high-profile convictions; a big sentence initially to make a point, then a quiet reduction on appeal. Still, at his age, going to Virginia prisons, I doubt that he'll see blue sky again.

Shell's story was a bit different. I'm not convinced the prosecution wasn't lying in this one.
