I know nothing about the Fuji platform, but here's a general rule of thumb that I follow when faced with the same question:

New body

Yes, if the upgraded features are significant; No, if the upgraded features are incremental. The catch is -- YOU have to determine if the additional features are significant or incremental. My example (Nikon DSLR). I upgraded from a D700 to D800e because i think those features were significant. I do not plan to upgrade to a D810 because the advantages are incremental.

Lens

Yes, if it is still fully useful and usable if/when I upgrade my current body (based on what I know / what is available today).

Have you already tried out the XE2, being able to experience the improvements over the XE1 for yourself will help with the decision.

Also for the lenses, have you thought about the Fuji 14? It is not the latest/greatest and does not have 1.4 but it is still on heck of a lens and currently going for 60% of the 16 price on the used market.

i had the 14 and sold it (when i was unemployed)...between the 2 i would much prefer the fov of the 16 over the 14...though the 14 was an excellent lens.

No problem Joe. Are you missing shots with the X-E1? The reason I ask is that one person's slow AF may not bother another. I also know that you've wanted a 24mm equiv since before it was even announced. Maybe by the time you have the cash, they will be cheaper on the used market and you could get both... you could sell the X-E1 and zoom to cover some of it as well.

Locally, there is a chrome and a black xe2 for $500cdn each, on kijiji, for several days now.

i wish that was a local deal...500 cdn is so much nicer than 500 usd...

i am much better with the xe1 now than before...lots of practice yet i still do occasionally miss a good shot...
yes, the 24 would be a sweet spot in my lens trio...
i am thinking of listing the xe1 with zoom...no need for 3 bodies.
