Book Not Camera

One of my favorites is "Dust Bowl Descent" by Bill Ganzel. He goes back to the same locations where many of the FSA pics were made. He sometimes shoots the same scene and people, as in the originals, 40 years earlier. (Migrant Mother, Dust Storm, etc) It's a fascinating read and visual treat.

One of my goals in life is to be an FSA or WWII photographer.

Oh this sounds INCREDIBLE! I am on the hunt now for a good used one. I saw the FSA photographs and this would be great to see. Is there a short story line with the photos?

Yes, there are essays to go along with the snaps. He even reshot Florence Thompson (Migrant Mother) and her children together again. I happened to find a used one on Oh-boy, for 12.00. A new one will run you about $70.00, so by all means, find a used one. You'll rewally enjoy it. Let me know when you find one.

I just went and used my gift card present to pick up a copy of "Robert Capa: The Definitive Collection". That's an incredable book that'll take quite awhile to digest.

I'd like to thank everyone who's posted in this thread - my "to find" list has grown substantially.

i dont know how i neglected this one ... but i just started reading On Photography by Susan Sontag two nights ago and i found out today that she just passed away.... anyway it is a great read and it gives photographers a lot to think about...

a side note this year alone i have had this uncanny track record:
i picked up a couple of Helmut Newton books and a week after he passed. the same thing happened with Avedon and HCB and now Sontag....i think it is time to start delving into older work of long gone artists and writers, or it is just strange coincidence

Robert Capa: The Definitive Collection arrived this afternoon. Incredible - its going to take ages to read it... :)

I cant stress enough how great the book "Art & Fear-The Perils and Rewards of Artmaking" is. An epiphany to many that read it. And don't neglect "Occam's Razor & On Being A Photographer, by Bill Jay. Also, Zen In The Art Of Archery, is very good.

You figured how to get back in! Nuts ........
LOL.

You hear that Joe? Harold just cancelled his order for three (free) rolls of Neopan 400CN. That's three more for you!

Joe,
I just got you 3 more rolls of film -- you're welcome:p
Is Russ behind door Number 3 ?

What a surprise (and sad coincidence) - I just got a delivery from Amazon: Susan Sontag's 'On Photography' - an unexpected X-mas gift from a friend who is out of the country at the moment - and my only photo-related gift this year (well, OK, the jacket I got from my GF does have nice large pockets for carrying my cameras when out and about...)
