Number 2 is a great shot. Did you do much to it in Photoshop? I spend half my life in airports and to be honest, I'd never considered the photo opportunities.

I was in Nashville a few months back. Very relaxed city and I loved the music scene.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Yea the TSA , well, they can be a bunch of loons. #2, that is pretty much right out of the camera ran through Alien Skin Exposure for the black and white conversion. Thats it. I'm going back to orlando next week so hopefully i can find some shooting time. I started a group on flickr for airport photography called " Layover " . Go and check it out and post some of your stuff!

Okay, espressogeek, here you go. Don't think my results are as good as yours, but here's what I got. First set is architectural and second set is people. Thanks again for the inspiration/motivation to do this!

Not that this was a contest but I think you beat me! I love the first and third people shot. WOW. That last one, the third, WOW. I really like it.

How did it feel to use the camera in a " contained " environment? I find it easier as I have a horrible time on the street. I find more time to study angles, lines etc in the airport. I thought i would have flow two more times by now but I have been stuck in Nashville. It looks like I will be making a hop within the next two weeks however so I will be sure to bring my RD-1 with me!

Thank you very much, espressogeek, for the kind words. Have to say that I did enjoy shooting in the airport. Had more time to kill than I planned so it was a fairly leasurely affair. Your comment about it being easier in a contained environment sort of match my own. It was nice to have the time to determine lines and angles, particularly with the static situations presented (folks sitting around waiting for their flight, etc.) and wait for interesting scenes. However, at the same time I felt even more conspicuous in the airport than I do on the street - like I was going to get questioned by some authority at any time. On the street I feel like I can always just walk away yet in the airport, particularly when I'm also waiting for a flight home, I cannot do that. Guess I just need to get more comfortable with taking pictures of strangers with that look of "it's okay, I'm just an innocent photographer, nothing to be worried about, don't mind me..." :eek:

Hi Randy, I also loved the last photo - great graphic image.

As to people noticing you, what I do is, if someone notices you looking at them, just immediately turn away and look somewhere else. They never bother you if you don't look back at them. Then when they've forgotten about you, you can have another go! The worst thing in my experience is to make eye contact or act apologetic, as they then know you were actually looking at them, and not just looking past them or whatever.

Anyway, you get over the self-conscious thing after a while :D
 
OK, I like the thought of keeping this thread going. So here are a few from my latest plane ride back to Nashville from Orlando.

These are all RD-1 with Biogon 35/2. I really wanted a 28 when I was doing these. What was weird was shooting iso 800 i encountered some M8 like purple banding on the overexposed windows. I'll post an example if anyone has never seen it before.
 
Nice shots espressogeek. I like the abstract nature of the first shot and the feeling of being there on the third shot. And thanks for keeping this thread going. You've motivated me, once again, in that I'll be doing some traveling soon and will try to add to my "airport/travels portfolio."

Thanks VRgard. I think we are motivating each other or at least that is the way it works for me. I just never get comfortable on the street but I have time to sit and study on a plane or in an airport. It seems to suit me better.
I'm looking forward to seeing your and others shots.

I like # 3. It has an old Kodak look to it, like a 50's look. The bw's are all excellent but the color in #3 just caught my eye.

I did not know you could still hand carry a camera into the terminal. I'm leaving Dallas for DC in a month or so. I'll give it a shot.
