Hi,
I can't find the bottom plate to my M9. I don't know if it inadvertently got thrown out or something. Has anyone had to buy a replacement? Anyone know the cost?

How did that happen?
Anyway, the replacement will cost around 300 euro if my memory serves me correctly. My M8 suffered a broken base plate close to two years ago, and I had to look into getting a new one at that time.

Hi,
I have no idea how it happened. I took it off near my computer and left it on a counter, or at least thats what I think happened. I can only guess my house guest or girlfriend moved it or it got accidentally got thrown out :-( I went through most of my trash and couldn't find it. I'll keep looking.

Just a thought....it might actually be much less expesive to purchase a Leica M8/M9 grip, which basically is course a bottom plate with a grip attched to it. Hope though you find your plate. I know what it's like to loose thiings that are expensive to replace.

If you search on the l-camera-apps.com website you should find the replacement Leica item/cost. Alternatively look ai Luigi's Leicatime site for non-original but with openings for card and battery.

If you do any tripod work you might like the RRS plate - replaces the M9 baseplate.

That is absurd. I'm not doubting you, I'm just disgusted at that kind of mark-up.

Buy the grip, more useful, anyway...

I'm a big fan of the Luigi baseplate that came with the M9 I owned briefly.
Just didn't see the point of having to remove the whole bottom just to swap batteries or take out a tiny SD card at the end of each day, but that's just me I guess. I have only sympathy for people who go through multiple batteries and cards in a day.

As a many people have had their M9 upgraded to M9-P spec I suppose you may find baseplates (and top plates) on Ebay, just so long as the upgraders asked for them to be returned with the 'new' camera.

Unlike those who go through more than one film during a day?I'm a big fan of the Luigi baseplate that came with the M9 I owned briefly.

I "lost" mine several times in the past, almost going crazy until I found it.
I have now forced myself to acquire the iron-clad habit of replacing the bottom plate immediately after I remove it, no matter for how short a time.
This has saved me hours of aggravation, since I'm already extremely absent minded.
(I do the same for my film Leicas. I never leave the bottom plates off)

Not sure of euro price, but in the US, M8 plate was $334 shipped (inquired this year). They had good condition used one for 1/2 price but I guess that's subject to the availability of the moment. I assume the M9 base plate would be about the same price. Good luck!

Wow, I didn't know about this one, I have a RRS ball head with quick clamp and a screw on base plate for the bottom. The RR stuff rocks, great quality. If you do any tripod work you might like the RRS plate - replaces the M9 baseplate.
