I feel anxious at the thought of buying and selling as many different camera and lenses as you do Joe. I dont mean any offense but Im genuinely interested in what drives that?

Do you simply like to try everything and not mind the trade / acquisition side of it?

(Im eager to try the X100 wide converter even though Im fairly sure I wont use it so much.)

i used rd1 cameras for years and now the fujis…i may have played with others along the way but my main kit has pretty much been consistent. same with lenses, buy & try but keep a steady core that i use.
no offense taken by the way. i live alone so no constraints imposed by another, no permissions sought and fought over.
i like to try for myself and consider any losses as rental fees…and the biggest difference between me and many others is that i talk about it.

I share the same sentiment as you Harry. If I went through the same number of lenses I'd dare not imagine the financial and probably personal difficulties it would cause me, not to mention I doubt I'd actually learn to genuinely master any of the gear with such a high turnover of photographic tools.

But I'm not Back Alley, and the difference between simple self indulgence and pathological addiction is the scale of the sacrifices you make to sustain the habit. I'm presuming/hoping BA's expendable income is significantly more than mine, and he doesn't have too much stress by way of financial dependents.

In any case, what ever the story is, from a selfish point of view it's nice to have someone testing ALL the lenses for our reviewing purposes 😀

most of the money that i spend on gear was earned by photography. today i am shooting a family portrait for money, i used to shoot weddings and had my own very small studio with a couple of other photographers for a few years. i sell and i buy, not much 'new' money enters the equation.

If you can afford to try stuff Joe then you're fortunate indeed. I used to be able to buy/sell more than I do now due to lack of any income. What I can't bear are those who buy purely coz they can but never use the gear they buy. It just fills a gap until something better/different comes along. I know someone just like that.
That said I'm considering selling my CV15mm to fund the Fuji XF18mm. My financial situation is unlikely to ever change now, barring a lotto win, so I'm looking at the Fuji Xpro as my last ILC.
As for you Joe, enjoy yourself!

I hope I didn't come across as accusatory, I just don't know you that's all, and I'm sure most will agree there are plenty of gearheads around who spend an unhealthy amount of time and money on stuff they don't actually use... But yeah totally fair enough, besides, I think we all have irrational habits of some kind, which is just as well otherwise we'd be boring. Personally, I spent way too much money this year on travel - 6 countries in the past 3 months and accumulated quite a few kg in books in the process, I really ought to work more.... :bang:

Sure, it does become more noticeable on the wide end, but the point of view distance to achieve the same FOV is roughly 40cm, less than a step.

Not if u don't have the step back to take though. But the other item to think about, some of us do not normally use a 28 as our wide when used in combo w/ a normal lens. I tend to use a 40 as my norm and a 21 or 24 as my wide. In the days of the Leica CL it was a 21/40 combo. The Fuji xp1 I am using a 14/27 combo. The xp w/ speedbooster I am tending to use a 24/40 combo or te 24-85f2.8-4 zoom.
