Bought a flash

Sjixxxy, those are great, I looked at the thread and your Flickr. I've done some of that too, and frankly, I think it is easier than with a SLR or DSLR (and I've tried both). Just set your f stop to the auto setting your flash has. Try for one with DOF. Move you shutter down to give some background exposure (to heck with the background blur), and zone focus. Walk around and shoot anything.

Off the forum, Al told me of another trick to make the most of ambient light: use a shutter speed slower than the camera's sync speed. I did a few exposures at 1/15 sec., and two at 1/8 sec., and I can say that the technique works. Subject movement is of course a risk at the really slow speeds and if ambient light is high.

I just want to say that when I have both tilt and swivel *I* find there is rarely any reason to take the flash off the camera... and when I do I take it way off the camera (>6ft), mostly on a light stand. Swivel is why I prefer the Sunpak 383 to the Vivitars that everyone seems to love so much (I hated mine, big bulky awful controls).

bounce, bounce, bounce... then it can look like any other available light... or better.

yes, I hate flash as well.
