Bought a M8 while on vacation and the result is...

Well, there I was, starting my Asian vacation and guess where was the first stop : Singapore. I was resisting all those digital mambo jambos when in Funan Center, a shop with a chrome MP sparkled my interest.

He had a small but nice Leica section and then I saw the M8 on promotion.. gosh.. can't be... was... cheap... well, cheap by Leica standards that is.

I picked up the thing and few SD cards and there I was, the film man, shooting away. I was worried that the M8 couldnt do landscapes, the sensor wouldn't be capable of getting decent gradients, the dynamic range would be bad, my beloved summilux will not produce the same bokeh that pleases me... but in the end, I think my fears were wrong.

Judge yourselves , please be gentle, afterall this is my first time with the M8 :)

well the 'lux still manages to output the same bokeh, as you can see, but now I need a wider 'lux :)

Well, this is my first batch ( well, out of a few hundred ) of my M8.. overall I'm pleased : I have a 6 photo panorama that turned out very nice... I do need to get a decent polarizer and ND filter, but need to settle for a WA lens first...

All the photos taken with a Summilux 50 1.4 pre-ASPH.

Im impressed with the dynamic range of the camera, smooth gradients and low noise ( up to 640 is very nice ), even 1250 and 2500 are somewhat usable... specially 1250...

On the downside, the white balance. since I shoot only RAW, its ok, but c'mon... couldn't they put a decent AWB sensor in a camera like this ? It's terrible...

Sorry for the long post, but well, I liked what I see. Had to share :)

Agreed on M8. Got thousands of exposures now since last Jan. when I received it and really like the results. Sold my M7 and my MP is sitting unused. However look out for the lens buying fever to begin! Btw, didn't get any pics attached to your post.

Don't blame you for being happy, can't fault the photos or the M8s output seen here. Very nice.

I enjoyed your photos. I have had my M8 since June. I am very pleased with the dynamic range and the sharpness of the photos but I have one significant problem. The sensor is always dusty. I clean it regularly but it still accumulates dust very quickly. I can remove the spots in Aperture easily enough but the extra post-processing is very time consuming.

All great photography. Congratulations on your new M8. Suggest shoot RAW, set WB to a K setting aroung 5000. Use post processing to adjust. AWB is either in the camera or during post processing.

Man! Here is another person who just picks up an M8 and starts creating eye-popping photos from day one! Why do I have to work so hard at it?

I have been waffling on the M8.
I may wait till the new year - but seeing images that it can produce, and knowing that I would use it strictly for B&W, it's not going to be easy.. :)

Your photos made a very serious dent on my resolve to buy a Nikon D3 instead of a digital Leica... That's some very good color! The composition, of course, is yours, but the camera's contribution is not to sneeze at. In other words, good job! :)

I'd give more credit to those three than the M8.

i have had mine since February and I have just finally this past weekend cleaned the sensor. Probably did not have to do it as the spots were very minimal and required max magnification to see. One thing I do at every lens change is to blow and wipe around the lens mount prior to removing the lens, along with turning off the camera before the change. I also blow into the lens opening with my breath or a hand blower, with the opening turned down before mounting the new lens. Seems to work very well to keep the dust down.
