I've improved the patch visibility in several fixed lens rangefinders with a very careful cleaning - its very possible that was the extent of his work. If cleaning doesn't do it, replacing the mirror or beam splitter is the usual next step.
That is much more difficult than cleaning though.

John is great and I'm very happy with the work he did on my 35RD.
Unfortunately it looks like he is no longer working on rangefinders at this time according to the message on http://zuiko.com
And another one bites the dust. Just hope mine keeps going for a long time.

Any idea what he (John Hermanson) might have done during the CLA to improve the viewfinder and RF patch so well? Was it just a cleaning? Something else?
Thanks! Dave
Probably, cleaned, adjusted all the RF parts, but he did very much more. Like checking the lens alignment, adjusting and cleaning the shutter, lubricating all the moving parts, and on my camera he replaced the filter ring. He also checked the light seals for integrity (and repaired one area), changed for modern batteries, and replaced the door leatherette. Good job all the way around. Well worth the price.

Thank you, but in this case it was the camera and the place.

For the battery...I think we've all seen the Wein px625 replacement cells for sale at the photo stores. For the price, they're pretty reasonable. Turns out though, they're just 675 hearing aid batteries with a washer ring around them! For the uber-cheapskate out there (like me), it's easy to push the washer ring off a Wein cell with some pliers and slip it over a new 675 1.4v hearing aid battery. Saves a couple dollars per battery, which is nice when they need replacing so often.
