Uh oh! I visited the Pasadena camera show.

I just spent some money. I bought a Seranar 50/1.9 with some cleaning marks, otherwise clean. It cost $70. Is it a good deal?

Thanks,
Lance

that's a good price. i think they generally go for about 125 and then there's shipping if bought on the net.

i was at a camera show today also.
i bought a top for a lonely dev. tank and got a great contax filter in 46mm.
but nothing as nice as a lens or camera.

I have thought about getting this lens to have a collabsible 50 for when I want to go compact. I have heard good and bad things about this lenses optical performance. Let us know how it does.

One question, does the aperture have click stops?

It does not have click stops. It looks just like the 1.9 on Canon museum site. It even has the ears to adjust the aperture. The glass is nice, no scratches, no fungus, no haze, no dust. The coating on the front surface has cleaning marks where the coating is worn. The body is in excellent shape.

I'll need to get a hood for it. I don't think I have a hood that will fit. I guess I'll check s5 hoods.

I have some asa400 c41 in my Canon IV now. I'll post a couple couple shots in a few days. Any particular subject or apeture?

I also bought a camera too. A late 40's, early 50's Kiev. It will need a little work. It cost about $40.

I would be interested in something wide open and another stopped down to f/8 of the same subject. Also, a bokeh shot would be nice. Sorry for all of the requests.

I have read that it is Summitar like. Anyone have any insights on that statement?

BTW, have fun with your new lens.

Chuck, I recently bought one of these lenses and have just done a focussing test which might be of interest to you - Newspaper at 1 metre at 1.9 (enlargement of 1/10th of negative) and bokeh at 2.8. I used the notoriously grainy Lucky 400, but I'm more than happy with the definition.

Cheers, Ian

That clothesline image is lovely, test or no test, Lucky or no Lucky. 🙂
