The one few people talk about and that is thought suspect by many. The CV 50mm f2.5 . This will be the most modern lens I own, the others are all from the 1940's to '70's. It'll be interesting to see what it offers. Much is made on the quality of lenses with some folks paying $1000's. I like the alternative/guerrilla/subversive approach of using lenses like this and the FSU stuff. During a RFF print exchange a while ago, I recieved a very good print done with the CV 50 f2.5.

Good luck with the CV 50 f2.5, I checked out your gallery and you have sensational photos there. You do very well with that old glass, I can imagine your efforts with this new glass, hope its to your liking.

The build and ergonomics are top notch. It is a lens that I like to carry. Physically, it's heavy for its size. (We're talking brass, baby.) It's compact and the focus tab is really, really nice. (It stands to reason why tabbed Summicron owners are ga-ga for it.) Compared to a latest Elmar M 50/2.8, the Skopar 50/2.5 is more impressive to look at.

Size-wise, the Skopar 50/2.5 is shorter than the Elmar extended. It is also shorter than my collapsible Summicron 50/2.0. It's FOV is also a little wider than the Elmar.

In a print, it has slightly higher contrast than the new Elmar. Wide open, I suppose it's alright sharpness-wise. The Elmar is a bit sharper though. Back in February I posted some test shots.

I hear some folks have seen noticeable barrel distortion with it. I have not noticed this myself.

I have been caught by lens flare when the sun was low and to the side one time.

With regard to 50's Sardou throgh Luigi Illica said it all. "Dio creo diversi belta, vini deversi. Io vo gustar quanto piu poso del oppra del vino." My philosophy and it seems Frank's as well.

I'm not fussing at frank --- but you can only play with one toy at a time... hehehe

I think he has too many lenses and I'm going to head the FrankS Socialist Lens Reform Party whereby all his lenses but 1 will be confiscated and redistributed to the people... Along with all of raid's 50's as well... Which lens you going to keep?
After many years in power the Swedish Social Democrats who espouse a similar philosophy got bounced last Sunday. The bourgiosie, it seems are back in the driver's seet.

a fine upstanding citizen, Dr. Raid. Did the adapter make it to you? I've been just kinda outa whack the past few weeks

Thanks. I got the black adapter. It looks cool compared to the common chrome adapters.

OK Frank - Give up the information. How many 50's do you have now.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. 50 is my favorite FL also.

Your reason of them being like women and wanting to sample them all, COMPLETELY justifed them.:angel:

Good - -- sorry if I've been slow shipping -- dad's secretary was out and working all the time helping my brother...

Which lens will you keep now that I've started a revolution?

That's a good one! I haven't noticed your revolution. What is it against?
In your honor and your revolution, I will start by selling my Tessar design
Canon 50mm/2.8 lens. Who wants to buy it?

Raid, I reaaaaaly wish I had the money to do so. Extended loan till I can pay for it? 😀 Nah, didn't think so.

You know, I'm really not that bad with the amount of gear I have. Yes, I have more than I need, but I can name every piece. There are lots of members here, I would wager, that cannot. I have 9 M or LTM 50mm lenses, one Nikkor 50mm RF lens, and for some reason, 7 Contax mount 50mm lenses. None of the lenses I paid more than $275 for (that was for the Summarit). Many are FSU lenses, and there are no "Luxes for sure.

(Thank you for the kind words on my gallery, M2fan!)

i (now) own only one fifty millimeter lens.

Yes, but now you are getting nervous over the fact that it has 50 millimeters. Do you really need all of those millimeters, maybe some of them are redundant? How many are? Oh, and you have a ninety millimeter lens. That one definitely has too many. How many do you really need? You are very happy with your twenty five millimeter lens. I don't know, more than twenty five must be redundant, we can't have redundant......

Keep this up guys, he will be selling again soon. 😉

50mm lenses are the best thing made for rangefinder cameras.
They are fun; they are sharp; they are affordable; they are classic;
they are "part of the camera"; I could go on and on here.
I am trying to justify my using twelve 50mm lenses for the Leica rangefinder camera. I really use them all. Today, I may use six of them.
I even prepared a list;

frames
1-6 Rigid Summicron 50/2 [came with my M3]
7-12 Nikkor 50/2 [I was curious about Nikkors]
13-18 Zeiss Sonnar 50/2 [a rather rare lens]
19-24 J-3 50/1.5 [I heard about Brian Sweeney's magjc]
25-30 Summitar [came with the IIIc]
31-36 Canon 50/1.8 [came with the Canon VI-L]

I am happy with such lenses ready for use. Like Frank, I have not paid a huge sum for any of these lenses. I doubt that I will ever pay a large amount for a new 50mm lens.
