Brass is soft, spring steel is hard

So any suggestions on how to stop camera strap ring fixings eating through the brass lugs on my RF cameras would be appreciated.

Never had this problem with DLSRs.

I use soft material to make loops that connect to the split rings. I previously used waxed thread (like Gordy's Straps), but these would wear quickly (a couple weeks if in heavy use). So, now I use paracord (with the internal strands removed) to make about 3/4 inch loops through the lugs -- the split rings are attached to these. Doesn't look so elegant, but that isn't a concern for me because these last a long time before fraying and prevent ALL wear to the lugs.

Triangular rings like the Nikon ones seem to wear lugs much less. I think it is the split that does the damage, with the triangular ones that split is kept away.

I tried, but could not insert the metal hooks of 14312 Leica Carrying Strap through inserted tubes.

I used electrical shrink tubing and it was great until it wore through a year later. Then I used $.20 more shrink tubing...

Well, that might not help. Chrome is harder than brass so it ought to cause wear of the brass fitting, not prevent it. To avoid wear, the other material would need to be at least three Rockwell points softer than the brass. Perhaps something like aluminum would be better. But I liked the idea, above, of using heat-shrink tubing. In fact, I might just do that. I have plenty of heat shrink!

To avoid wear, the other material would need to be at least three Rockwell points softer than the brass. Perhaps something like aluminum would be better. But I liked the idea, above, of using heat-shrink tubing. In fact, I might just do that. I have plenty of heat shrink!

I haven’t tried mine, so I can’t give you anecdotal evidence. However the original lugs in M2 to M4 are satin chrome plated brass aren’t they?
Anyway the split ring ends of the Cura rings are polished and very smooth. I suspect the additional wear from sharp ends is then avoided.

I too like the idea of shrink wrap tubing.

As a past owner of a bunch of Nikons I agree that the triangular Nikon rings are excellent.

I wonder if the circular rings, because they are circular, only make contact with the outer edges of the lugs and therefore the weight (and wear) is not distributed evenly across the lugs?
