I just would like to thank all RFF members who have helped discover RF photography. Unlike some other sites everyone has been so friendly and polite. This place feels like a cosy community. When I first started photography a few years ago I was constantly getting flamed due to my green status but there is none of that here. Today has been a good day for me; the Bessa R came today and I am impressed. My girlfriend is going to buy a film scanner for my birthday so it looks like everything is falling into place for me this month. My Canon 20D is getting jelous 😉

heck - you're further along than i am! i've been shooting with my old Canon GIII for a couple years, and have been wanting to get a Bessa since i discovered this site, but haven't managed to pick one up yet.

You know you can trade your 20D and Canon glass for hundreds of rolls of Tri-X plus all you need to develop it, dont' you? 😉
Enjoy your Bessa, it's a cool camera.
Cheers
Vincent

i took to roles of film with a canon GIII; just to get a feel for RF photography and I was sold. None of them were serious photos.

Right now I have got a role of ilford xp2 in the bessa and I can't wait to see the results.

You are in the grace period. Before you know it there will be a tug-of-war for your photographic soul into the Canon and Leica camps.

So M3any caM3eras, so little time..

Listen to the voices..........

You'll end up with GAS like the rest of us. Seriously we're an OK bunch, and remember that there is always someone greener than you. Like the rest of us for instance 🙂

Zeiss-Opton! Kiev! Pentacon Six! (OT) Sonnar! Contax! Fed! Zorki! Hi-Matic! Aires! aaaaaah sorry I'm suffering a GAS attack right now!!!!! *screams, shouting camera manufacturer names in a frenzy*

😉

Welcome, Everyone here is great it is good place to be... Buttttttttt... i hope you have a good job because you have step into a place where money seems to fly out of your pocket like it suppose to... Why would you save money for food when you can buy another camerea

I second the sentiment. I have been collecting cameras for years, but am relatively new to photography. I gravitated straight to the rangefinders because that's what I would find while out looking for other antiques. I work in a lab with many complex instruments, so it is relaxing to not have to worry about settings on a digital camera. The info and nice people here make the experience that much better. Thanks.

Is it too soon to mention the "red menace" of the FSU gear? Or should we just surprise him?<cue scary laughter> 🙄
Bluedust, I absolutly agree with you about the atmosphere here: it's wonderfuly warm and welcoming and the other guys are very well informed.

They're not joking about the GAS.. I'm serious.. I showed up here with intentions of learning b&w film for my existing rangefinder, and in less than a month I purchase this 50+ year old camera when my current one works perfectly well, and now I need a lens and a whole buncha other stuff.

But yes, this is one of the most new-user friendly sites I've ever come across, you ask a question, and regardless of the fact that hundreds of others have asked it in the past, you get clear responses, none of the "search the forum" or "it's the photographer, not the camera" b.s. you always get from them uptites 😀

Welcome to the world of postdigital photography. 🙂

Welcome, and I agree it's one of the best behaved forums (fora?) anywhere on the net. I know I've asked some rather naive questions at times here and never have I been flamed. (... yet) 🙂 🙂 🙂

Seriously, I think you'll like it here. 🙂

Mah Jano, once u join this place u will go nuts, eversince i've joined, and there's a camera i'm hunting, i bought another fed 3, a couple of months ago...And i'm hunting a Mamiya right now...I'm only saving my money for film and processing 😀

And i'll never be able to recover...😀

I am assuming GAS = gear addiction syndrome ?
FSU? no idea

I once got flamed so bad in a digital forum that one member dug up my first post on the forum asking for critique on my first ever photos (of course the photos were terrible) and mocked my efforts.

To be honest I am tired of "this camera has banding when using the flash" and "this camera searchs to much when autofocusing". I want to concentrate on taking photos and not on the technology that stands in between the photo to be taken and the photographer.

I like it here 🙂
