Hello all,
I just noticed this a couple of weeks ago, so I don't think it was there when I first got my M8 about a month ago. There is now a bright blue pixel (or perhaps a couple, hard to tell) in the lower left of my LCD screen. It doesn't show up in the photos themselves once they have been uploaded to my iMac, just on the LCD screen of the camera and it only shows up if the image is dark or underexposed. Shots taken in good light aren't affected. It will also sometimes literally disappears when reviewing photo's on the LCD of the M8 on some pictures...in other words, you'll see it initially but when the photo fully loads in, it will vanish...on other shots, it's there regardless and doesn't go away.
I have ordered a new SD card-a SanDisk Extreme lll 2 GB to see if that makes a difference (I've been using a SanDisk Ultra ll 1GB).
It would seem that if it were a stuck pixel it would be there constantly, not dependent on the exposure or ISO setting.
Does anybody know what this could be?

Sure sounds like a dead (or dying) pixel on your LCD screen. Some guys at work have reported similar behavior with their LCD computer monitors over the years.

if it's showing up only in dark/underexposed areas, it's simply the shoddy on-board jpeg preview processor making a poor decision as to what pixel gets what color. Remember, lcd preview screens are useless, the image is resized, down-rendered, and set to whatever color space is needed for viewing on those things. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it, from what i understand from your description, it's not a dead pixel.

I've seen dead pixels on computer monitors and they're usually gray or black with no color. A stuck pixel is usually a color such as red, blue, or green.
What's been throwing me with this situation is that it's not consistent...usually a stuck pixel doesn't fluctuate and is there consistently no matter what and it especially doesn't just literally disappear before your eyes when previewing certain shots like this one does.

Exactly, stuck pixels would show regardless of what you look at, like the menus, and would be in the same place all the time, a dead pixel would be black, this is simply a pixel being rendered by the software improperly for preview purposes...thus it doesn't show up in the actual image file.
There are 2 stages to the preview with the m8 as well, there is an initial quick preview, then a few seconds later a better quality preview takes its place, this could also be what you are describing.

You paid 5 big ones for the camera. Demand that they fix it, no matter what it is.
$150 point and shoot digicams don't have bad pixels, you shouldn't have them on a tiny screen like that.
(the SD cards have nothing to do with it)

If you send it back to Leica, they'll only send you back another one with the same problem, it's NOT a dead pixel, it's simply lackluster preview processing. This is oddly one area of the m8 that every negative reviewer has missed when deciding to destroy the m8's reputation and certainly an area where the m9 could certainly improve on.

I'm going to hold off sending it to Leica...at least for now. I've only had the camera for a month and it's not a huge problem that's going to affect my photos or anything. Annoying, yes...especially considering the cost invested. After searching some more I see where there are other incidences that are very similar. Guess you can chalk this up as another "quirk" of the M8 (I still love the camera regardless of the negatives)!

one of my m8's has this symptom.
it gets worse the colder the weather is.
i havn't noticed it since winter ended.
im just waiting until im free after this 4th of july to send it back.
i dont want to be without a body for so long, for something so trivial.
i hear ya!

After spending ages trying to clone out a dead pixel in photoshop, I resurected my 21 inch CRT!!!!
