I think that illustrates my point Bill. I know many people like you but not a single person that would say he was a great president. It is a fundamental problem with the political system the way it is here. It is like needing brain surgery or you will die, but no brain surgeons are available, so would you like the proctologist or the gynecologist to proceed? It is your choice really, aren't you lucky to be free to make the choice?
I think people in other countries believe that we all liked Bush because he was voted into office twice, but the choices were not so great.
The reason George Bush won twice?
Al Gore - 2000
John Kerry - 2004
You have to have been there to understand.

Bingo. And a bunch of words to make ten characters.

Both Gore and Kerry were way above W's pay grade. The voting populace was just too stooopid to realize it.

That's not how I saw it, and I spent a good deal of time trying to understand what each of them were actually intending to do as President. And I'm far from 'stooopid'. However, you may characterize me as you wish.

Yeah, that was a bit of hyperbole. But based on Bush's record, I would say "misguided". I doubt W will ever be called "elder statesman" by anyone, while Gore and Kerry will reasonably considered such by at least some.

In a way, the opinion was split four ways: Between those voting and those not voting ('the silent majority'). Then, out of those 100 million that did vote, - on all 4 -5 candidates, George W did get less than half the votes. That is max. 24% - possibly as low as 21 - 21% - Correct me if I am wrong.
You're assuming that those who did not vote had no opinion about the candidates. i don't think that's accurate.
I suppose enough minor party candidates ran in 2000 and 2004 to give you "all 4-5 candidates", but I'd have to do some research to remember who they were. Minor party candidates are almost universally not taken seriously, for better or worse.
My point remains.

Olsen, it doesn't do to tangle with the Tough Kid. As he said, he doesn't care what you think about the way he plays with his marbles. But, being by definition the Only Good Kid, he's ready to shoot you and bomb you to show you the best way to starve and drown.
Maybe things would be different if you were Jimmy Olsen...

They would have a lot in common. Like a common enemy: The Japanese. Gen.McArthur, a very fine gentleman, would soon understand what a genious leader Ho Chi Min was. A strange coincidence: Where I spend my holidays, Tioman Island, Malaysia, they talk of these two guys, Gen McArthur and Ho Chi Min as the heroes of the WWII in that region.
Sorry, I come from Malaysia and that's not the case.

Never allow the truth to get in the way of a good story
FWIW, Mountbatten was the Supreme Allied Commander for South East Asia, rather than MacArthur, not that I imagine anyone is that bothered any more.

Have been for the last year. Mae wenti, baby. Things change.
I'm also learning Esperanto. Ĉu vi parolas Esperanton? It has been 100 years (Dec 15) since Doctor Esperanto gave his gift to the world. Why Esperanto? The word itself means 'one who hopes'.
Esperanto. Cool. Tell me about your first vacation there.

Still he was a local hero with an impact on the whole region! Both for his WWII fight against the Japanese and the struggle for liberation after the war. Lord Mountbatten was the British man in charge in Malaya and a catastrophy as such. - Hist total war effort was a catastrophy (Dieppe raid etc.). In Malaya Mountbatten represented British colonial power. That makes him no hero in Malaysia - or elsewhere in the Far East. While Gen McArthur represented an country that wanted that these nations should be free from British colonialism (re. the Atlantic Pact etc.). AlsoHo Chi Min was looked upon as a liberator from the colonial powers in this region. (Mountbatten: Help!)

Just my experiences from communist Bulgaria: Photojournalism was not easy as photographs of burning buildings for example were not allowed and as soon as you strated to take typical subect for news there were bystanders asking you menacingly. Strangely if you aswked people they very often allowed it to be photographed.

Indeed Wikipedia is the Final Authority. Burrp. Also hot air, as I appear to be on the right side...
I don't know if anyone will feel less sleepy on seeing the photo attached. It seems to show that US truckers are aware of some Norwegians' affection for Obama.
As an aside, I shall add that months ago a criminally irreverent Irish friend referred to the World's Leader as O'Bomber.

Most truckers won't even know what this is. They see the words "Free Oil" and will come in.
