after firing off a few hurried shots the shutter lever has gotten stuck and the shutter is stuck open... any idea why this is and where to send it for repair ? I am in SF.

Youxin Ye <wye7@yahoo.com> will fix it with faster turnaround than anyone else for the best price. He fixed my M4 with stuck shutter; same-day turnaround in fact. Supplied a new shutter curtain.

My M2 suffered a catastrophic shutter failure and was repaired by Sherry Krauss. Didn't take particularly long. If you wat it back before Christmas - I'd probably go with Y.

Is your M3 a double stroke? If so, and you fired the shutter while advancing the 2nd stroke, that can cause the shutter to jam. Make sure you have completed both strokes before firing the shutter. If you have a single stroke, ignore the above.

There was one posted on Craigslist for $275 that I thought about checking out but it seemed like too good a deal. It was a double stroke with the slow speeds off, and the timing and problem with yours made me wonder.

I can surely vouch for Youxin's work and quick turn-around. I sent him my M3 for a CLA and had it back in 10 days...plus he communicated freely with me about the camera.

Likely the felt light trap has fallen off the camera and wedged into the shutter tape.

Simple to fix, but have to remove the body shell, RF arm and film chamber light shield to get to it.

I'll vouch for Sherry's work too. It's Sherry Krauter, though, not Krauss. (Golden Touch is her business name: www.sherrykrauter.com.) Also very often recommended is Don Goldberg (DAG Camera, www.dagcamera.com).
