So, through some trading I now have a small lot of bronica gear. An ETR-C, two ETRS, a few finders, backs, 40mm f/4 MC, two 75mm f/2.8 (MC and EII), 150mm f/4 MC.

The ETR-C performs flawlessly. However, both ETRS have issues. The better of the two is a later plastic one, and has a rough advance and small crack in the body near the finder mount. The other is earlier, but the lens mount seems just slightly out of round, making mounting lenses slightly tricky. And the shutter release on the speed grip doesn't work very well when mounted on that body.

Any thoughts on the issues? Is anything a quick fix, or is it all a 'send it in for service' type of thing? I can't imagine sending it out for service is very cost effective, as I can get an EX condition body from KEH for $56, and a bargain grade body for $37. I was probably going to sell the ETR-C, as I don't really want to deal with non interchangeable backs.

Thanks.

It's not worth to hassle with gear with problems - life is short, and MF film/development is expensive. ETRSI bodies are very cheap nowadays, less than 10 rolls of MF film developed/scanned in my place, just get EX body from the reputable seller (like KEH) and enjoy shooting - bronicas are fun!

Looks like I'll be ordering a bargain grade body from KEH. tried to run some film through the rough winding one, and advance is iffy at best.

Ok, the advance seems to be a case of user error on my part. All three bodies do it.

I loaded one back earlier, and could not make it advance the film properly and still fire the shutter. I would have to advance it in single exposure mode, but to get the shutter to fire, I'd have to switch to multiple exposure. In single exposure it would reach the stop and then keep going, unlike in multiple exposure mode. I loaded one back and managed to get 8 exposures into the roll in single exposure mode before it started doing the no advance thing.

What am I doing wrong?
