To keep the camera compact, I sometimes use a cable ferrule from the hardware store in place of the crank. I think it's the size for 1/8 inch. I used a Dremel to break the edges. The basic part-
Installed- creates a more comfortable grip for cranking, and even folds flat. Not as quick as the crank, but the camera doesn't snag and I don't have to fight the strap when winding.
