Took M-E with Summarit-M 35 2.5 for long hike today at Bruce Trail in Ontario.

We have one car at the start.

And came to another car at the finish.

Very nice, I didn't realize you were shooting digital M now? BTW, I recognize the parking lot in the final image (I think)... City View Park near Waterdown? Nice walks around there.

Thank you, yes, I received it as present couple of weeks ago and it was first long hike with M-E. Within three hours battery went from 50 to 25% with couple of dozens pictures taken....
Usually I walk on hikes like this with film M and little DSLR. I was interested to see how M-E handles autumn colors.

We started from side road not so far from Mount Nemo and walked to the City View park. Going to check another trail here which goes to Botanical gardens and Hamilton.

Yay, even the pooch got in the walk & Photographs....
A Sweeet Family Day in the Life. ;)

Thank you, Helen. It was my daughter, she keeps on asking for 25km hike. Yesterday we only went for 10+ with family friends, because lady in the pictures runs Toronto Marathon today, she started at 9 AM. I think, she must on 30km mark by this time...

I found that the M-E tended to behave weirdly under 50% charge. Not from a behavior perspective but from a battery performance one. From 100-50% it seemed reasonable and I got pretty reasonable drain, but under 50% and it would sometimes jump downward unexpectedly. I think it was poor reporting on the part of the camera.

I had the same issue with the Fuji-X100 too.

It's a nice area... my most recent fond memories of it are from the ice storm back at the end of March... that whole area along the escarpment was spectacularly covered in ice.

As for the M-E battery... life will also depend on the sleep setting of the camera. In my time with the M9, in order to avoid the long wake from sleep delay, I frequently used it with the sleep function disabled. The consequence was it would burn through a battery fairly quickly. Being a fairly small battery and that the CCD sensor is relatively power hungry, you're not going to get a lot of life out of it. During continuous use, such as at events like weddings, I probably got around 350-400 shots before swapping out once battery capacity was between 50-25% I also agree with Henry that battery reporting under 50% can be unpredictable. IIRC Leica also recommended swapping out the battery once around 50% to avoid quirky behaviour. Age of the battery can also be a factor.

Colour looks as it should in your images. :)

M-E is a great camera, have fun with it! I suggest you discharge the battery fully, and then charge it fully. Do this a couple of times, and if it doesn't improve then time for a new battery. Also, reduce the image preview time, or turn it off all together, and minimise chimping, and you'll find the battery lasts quite some time. ;)

Cheers,
Rob

Forgot to mention, but I did some of my first hiking on the Bruce Trail. I may live in Luxembourg now, but was born near to that "neck of the woods".

Small world!

I think, camera was sitting for too long in the store as new one. On the day I came, the battery was completely discharged and it took 45 minutes of charging to get camera to power up from this battery.
