Bought a New Elmarit 90/2.8 in the mid 90s, and used it a few times, the last several years ago. Today I decided to sell it off and took it out to examine it carefully. It is Mint condition and complete with box, case etc.
BUT, when I shone a bright LED light from behind with the aperture wide open, I saw hundreds(thousands ?) of fine, dust like particles. In fact they look more like very tiny bubbles. When I took it into the sun and looked at the front from an angle, in certain positions it looks like lots of "glitter" that kids use on their bodies.
Otherwise the lens looks great :)bang:) and is clean and transparent with no other scratche/rub marks/separation etc.

So, what is it ?
Is it a manufacturing flaw ?
What can be done about it ? (Will Leica fix it ?)
What is its relative value ?
Does it affect the IQ ?

The following images may have a bit of a "glow" to them - does the lens do this anyway ? Have I stumbled upon the long held secret to creating Leica glow ?

Love to hear opinions and advice !

I had the same on the same lens.
sent it for a cleaning, and it came back ok...

Did they say what it was ? My poking about on the Internet suggests either Lens separation or bubbles in the cement. There can also (apparently) be bubbles that can occur in the glass itself, but they are usually 1 or 2.

In my case, I think it was a simple cleaning, so no separation, just a deposition of some kind on one of the elements.
DAG took care of it...

That name suggests it is Familial, but if the corrosion is caused by Bacterial or Fungal infestation, Perhaps "Tele-elmaritis" ?:D

Most like helical grease separation combined with evaporation onto the elements. Pretty easy to clean up once the lens groups are removed as units from the outer barrel.

could be haze,,,
I have one m-rokkor 28
It arrived with hundreds of small bubble ...
and It was all cleaned out by my camera man
