I bulk loaded several cassettes the other night, and noticed that the film leader, when pulled, is rather stiff. It doesn't move nearly as smoothly as the pre-spooled films you buy in the store. Is this normal? Is it because of cheap, no-name, canisters; tight light traps on the canisters; or, and this could be a problem, is it that I haven't seated the film to the spool completely straight? I tried to ensure it was straight, but couldn't figure out a way to be sure that it wasn't slightly off.

I mean, it isn't tight enough that it would cause a problem for the camera if I didn't happen to have a camera that advances the film without a traditional winding mechanism! My Contax G2, however, utilizes some special film advance method, which I don't completely understand, and which senses the tighter than normal advance, thereby causing it to freeze up.

Please don't tell me that my bulk loading experience has been a bulk waste of time and money!!! Please!

Did you use a bulk loader or just loaded by hand? Only had this experience with cheap plastic ones on which I loaded too much film. You may want to roll a 12 exposure to check if too much film could be a problem. Generally I use metal cans and load 35 exp. (5*7 for contact sheets on 20*25 cm). Lucky containers are not too bad.

Thanks for reminding me to load some film into my loader!
