Bulk loading - attaching film to spool

I re-use commercial spools. Got a huge box of discarded ones from a photo lab. There's a small piece of film sticking out of each spool after their machine cuts it off from the roll. I just splice the bulk film on with a piece of Scotch tape (the "frosted" kind). Never have had an issue and they were free!

I do the same, got a bunch of old cartridges from my local Costco, back when they used to process film. What a drag they stopped, it was very convenient.

A long time ago someone here pointed the way to go with recycled commercial cassettes. Just poke the square-cut end into the cassette under the tail left sticking out and put the tape (I use ordinary clear tape) on the overlap, on the back of the film. I do it in the dark and the exposable film goes all the way to the last frame.

At unload time, just peel off the tail and tape and pull it out of the cassette for next use.

As said - it's time to start collecting from the 1Hr labs - they won't be there long 😡
