Now that Sigma has announced its plans for the DP* series, we know that there won't be either a zoom model or a super wide model.

In despair, I actually spent last night having a look at Sigma's Foveon-based dSLR bodies and their WA options. :eek:

As alluring as they may be, most of what I'd like to shoot with a WA are remote landscapes, rockscapes, skyscapes, etc. in places where the last thing I want to lug around is 1.3 kg of DSLR+lens.

am using SD15 and 10-20 f3.5 lens and while am pleased with results, it takes some effort to lug it all day long.

Gary has shown some photos using the GR wide adapter on the DP1M. Not bad, but the image degradation was noticeable, at least on screen. I haven't seen anybody talk about prints, however, so that would be interesting to know at what size print the image degradation becomes noticeable.

Remind me not to take you on hikes when I have my 8x10 with me.

In all seriousness, I have a pretty high tolerance for being encumbered, and I realize many others take a superleggera approach to photography equipment. But here's an idea: Why not find a really good WA front-converter such as the one for the GR, and put it on your Sigma?

If no such suitably sharp adapter fits a Sigma DP, I think the 1.3kg option might be all you have left. But compared to 8-10 pounds of tripod, bags, film holders, meters, loupes and dark cloth for my 8x10, that's practically a pocket camera. :D

To give you an idea, I'm going on thru-hikes often for several weeks at a time. My base pack weight (shelter, sleep system, pack, clothing, gear) is around 4 kg. 1.3 kg. is the equivalent of about two days of food.

Maybe I should try out the GR WA converter on the DP2M myself and see what the difference looks like at large printing sizes.

That is a lot more remote and a lot further to go than I thought you'd meant...yeah, I can definitely see your point.

Superleggera all the way in that case!

You can kill your own food with the SD1 and lens :eek:
 
Outside of a sd1m or using the gw3 adapter from Ricoh.. Leica monochrome or find someone that can convert a camera to monochrome by removing the Bayer or xtran array and then use "accuRaw Monochrome".

Btw those gw3 shots were around 200% crops. To me, the normal pics are acceptable, but ynnv.
