Bummer .. issue with my makina 67, please help

For those of you read my earlier post, yes just got my Makina 67 couple days ago, and I am still on my first roll and got this problem.

I went out to take some shots and came home but don't remember if advanced to the next frame or cock the shutter. Without unfolding the lens ( I suppose it shouldn't cause problem to adv when lens folded), I tried to pull the film transport lever carefully, as to my knowledge, if it's cocked it shouldn't be able to pull and it did allow me to advance the lever but!! It doesn't go back and get stuck in the middle. Now I can pull the lever further but it doesn't do anything and only comes back to the position in the picture. See photo. So I tried to fire the shutter and its firm and doesn't let you fire.

Can't believe this happens to me on my first roll. I feel so depressed now. Please let me know if you have any quick fix to it. Don't think I broke anything so should I open the back and try something even if it means I might waste my roll if film?

So is there a reset button that would un-cock the shutter?

Guys I think I fixed it.

Well nothing really wrong in the first place. I just didn't crank it to the end. It's a long crank and the last bit is a bit stiff so I guess I didn't go all the way that's why it doesn't spring back. Now shutter is working.

I'm glad the problem wasn't anything serious.

Your posts are littered with " ’ " notations... This means you have the editing in your browser set to use typogaphical quotes. It makes your posts hard to read; you should turn that feature off so that the editor inserts just plain single quotes and double quotes.

Thanks. Yes I do realize that but I am using an app that allows me to read and post using my phone - I rely on my phone more than my computer. Sorry about the messiness, but I do not know how to turn it off on this app. Think I will just avoid using short forms to avoid it.

You might be able to turn it off on an iPhone by going to Settings > General > Keyboard and turning off "Smart Punctuation". It's one of the issues with Tapatalk that's always been annoying. 🙂

Be precise when loading film with the Plaubel Makina. When loading control tension of the film going onto the take up spool by holding your finger on the paper as you advance it through. This helps with a smoother and easier advance when shooting. You want to put the least amount of stress on the advance lever as this could strip and parts are hard to find.

Also I have found the new Kodak backing paper to feel thicker and therefore seems to stiffen up the advance which worries me. I prefer to use HP5 in mine as this feels smoother - obviously this doesn’t help with colour film where there is not the same choice.

Great cameras though and I wouldn’t want to be without my W67

I have been "cleaning up" those notations in the interests of readability, but it would be very nice if you can avoid them! 🙂 Thanks for your useful suggestion, Godfrey!

Thanks. Portra is one of my favorite so probably cannot avoid Kodak alltogether but thanks for the heads up and I do hope it will stay with me many years to come.

The only thing to remember is to reset the focus to infinity B4 you close the camera. Otherwise you will destroy the scissors braces. Otherwise, the camera is super and produces excellent images.
