Buy a M-E now and get $4700 against a M-240 next year !
Either the M-E is not selling and/or there is a problem that will delay the M-240.
The optimist might say the M-240 order book is already full till the end of 2013.
It could be a great deal if your are in the market right now.
"Buy a Leica M-E now.
Trade it in for the new M later.
Don't worry. We'll guarantee your trade-in value.
Why wait? Start shooting with the Leica M-System today. If you buy a Leica M-E from Dale Photo & Digital before December 31st, 2012, we'll guarantee you a trade-in value of $4,700 towards your future purchase of a Leica M.
We've taken the risk out of getting in to the M-System, even with the new model already announced. Because, regardless of the market value for used M-E cameras next year when you take delivery of your new M, you can rest assured that the cost to switch out will be minimal.
With no firm initial shipping date from Leica and already long pre-order lists at every dealer, you don't have to wait without a Leica. "

What's their price for the M-E? They list M9 at $6,995 and M9-P at $7,995.

Their M-E is $5,450 - so renting one for almost a year would cost you $750 + any state taxes.

Agree. It's a great idea and both David and Josh are solid people. As some of you may know they have been tapped by Leica to open the new Leica store slated for Miami at some point.

That sounds like a solid deal. I probably would have considered it, rather than buying my used M9.
Granted, in buying my used M9 for only $4K, I don't expect to loose $750 on it by the time the M arrives. Heck, I might even be able to sell it for around the same price, if I was interested in trading up to the new M. Maybe the used M9 market is making it hard to move M-E's??

They must have a bunch of M-Es that aren't moving...

I would imagine so. Maybe Leica will drop the M-E price to $4500 soon.

If they are having trouble moving the M-E it's their own fault for sticking that ridiculous paint job on it. We used to do that in the appliance business...washing machines with brown tops that listed for rock bottom prices.

i have no idea why you think it's 'ridiculous'...it's a matte grey....pretty functional if you ask me. if it was painted orange, i could see your point...

I doubt the paint job is at fault. It's the price and the used price of the M9.

For anyone other than a fan of Leica/classic cameras the paint job seems entirely pleasant. Leica should and does know however, that buyers of such cameras are obsessed with details such as black paint, not chrome, matching lenses, brassing, vulcanite not griptac etc.
The Leica buyer can be very fussy indeed, and that paint job seems almost designed to push a buyer up to an M. I have no strong feelings about the paint job one way or another, but you've only got to hang around on this forum for a week to find out how keen some users are on how the camera looks.

I don't doubt it, just my experience here is that many users will want black or chrome, to match the lenses..

Seriously. Have you ever sold Leica equipment? It's a nightmare. "Your ad said it was in good condition but there's some brassing on aperture wheel. I'd like a partial refund of $200." Well the lens is used, it's 40 years old and I'm probably the 8th owner. THERE'S GONNA BE SOME WEAR.
"Was the lens/camera/strap sent in for a CLA? I need a freshly CLA'd lens/camera/strap." "Can you drop the price $800. I saw another one going for that price at XXXX." Meanwhile the comparison is a different version, and looks like it was used for photographing in coal mines.
