I have just bought a mintish M6 with 0.85 finder as my second M body after my M3. I sold two lenses so far, and I am in the process of selling a lens tonight online, leaving me with the thought that once I get a beautiful M6 with built-in meter, why do I need to keep my CL?

I usually buy, then try to be "good" and attempt to sell some items. What is your approach here? Do you first sell off stuff [as our spouses would insist on] and then buy the camera/lens, or is it the other way around?

Anyways, I am happy with my placed order for the M6 0.85.

Raid,

What are you selling? By "online" do you mean here or ebay?

Congrats on the M6. From ebay, dealer or individual?

Congratulations on your new M6 - is it the TTL? Anyway you'll love it.

Regarding selling then buying, it really depends. I try to be sensible and only spend what I can afford. The real issue for me is ending up with more cameras than I "need" or can legitamately use. That's what will drive my sales. My SO is very supportive of my GAS 🙂

I usually sell to raise the money beforehand. But if I can, I make the deal and borrow money til i can sell 😀

I bought the non-TTL 0.85 model.
My wife supported me in this wish, and she asked me to get the best model. for my photographic needs.

I also was advised to first sell some cameras and lenses to finance this buy, but then the cameras offered may be gone. This way, I am much more inclined to offer equipment for sale.

hey raid, if you have any extra m's laying around... I'll take them off your hands... then you won't feel guilty... Charity to others does wonders in comforting the soul

I may have a CL for sale soon to finance a Luigi camera case for the M6.
The pain never ends!
As for comforting someone's soul, I start with my own soul first .... then go to other souls.

I buy, meaning to sell, and rarely do. Have been meaning to get rid of a Nikon 70-180mm macro for the past two months, just haven't got round to listing it on the bay...

Selling it was a pre-requisite for buying my rangefinder gear *blush*

It depends on the situation. If I'm talking about replacing or upgrading an integral part of my kit, then I'll buy first and sell later. Never know what the equipment is gonna be like once it shows up. If it's something I don't really need and just want, then I'll try to sell first to finance the new toy. Of course, all this goes out the window if the right deal shows up.

American Express is very useful in those buy first - sell later examples, btw.

Sometimes I plan to buy with the intent to resell, but it has backfired many times when I would like the bought items and then I just keep them. That's how I got so many lenses and cameras.

I like Johns approach, and suffer the same as Photogdave. My scientific method in this is to buy first. Cautiously, of course, with analysis to justify the GAS. Repeat as necessary, with no thought of ever selling anything. 😱
