I don't normally post in this section as I only have film leica, but today decided I would get myself a M8, couple of questions I want to use my 35 1.4 pre-asph on it. Do I need to have the lens coded what happens if I don't and will I need to use an IR filter if I don't what happens. Last thing the IR filter do the come in series 7 size?
Thanks Fraser.

If you don't have an IR filter get used to lots of purple in your color shots

I've heard that the old 35mm Summilux won't fit digital Leicas unless a small amount is machined off the rear of the lens. Not sure if this is for both the M8 and M9, or just the latter.
Apparently it's the shroud of the rear element that hits something inside the camera body. I saved a diagram that shows what needs to be done to fix the problem and will try to attach it to this message.

some of the old summiluxes work, others don't. it seems a bit random from what i've heard. but it's not all that hard to get it fitted for the m8 or m9.
you will need a uv/ir-filter but i think you can do without the coding. 35mm is somewhere in the middle, i would have coded a 28mm but not a 50mm....

Picked it up today lens fits fine and focuses to infinity, very impressed with how sharp the 35mm 1.4 even wide open.
Maybe I should buy another lens
