Buying a UK Epson V800 but Moving Back to US in a Bit. Will It work on US outlets?

Seems like a simple enough question, but hard to find a definitive answer. I want to get the V800 but am currently living in the UK for the next 6-ish months. I'd like to bring the scanner back to the states to use but I'm unsure if it will work in the US. Can anyone help me out with an answer?

You'll need a voltage/plug converter as the UK is (from memory) 220 or 230v at 50hz. US is 110-120v at 60hz. Provided you use the correct converter- common at travel shops/airports- it will work fine.

Actually, looking at the specs on the US site the voltage is 100-240 which makes sense as most consumer elctronics now are compatible. Weird that the UK specs only list it as 240. Maybe that's because the power adapter is different and handles the voltage? Weird. Hopefully someone has better info.

Yeah, it looks like maybe the external power adapter may be the issue. That seems easy enough to fix but some confirmation with someone who may have experience here would help.

take a look at the back of the scanner. My Epson takes 24V and comes with an adapter that accepts 100-240V

The physical plug might be different...

It's just the one model with two different versions of external power adapters. The input to the scanner is 24V using an external AC adapter.

The EPSON AC adapter (A461H or A462E) is a 24V external adapter with a wall plug on one side and a φ 5.6 mm pin (middle +) on the other side of the adapter that plugs into the scanner. The external AC adapter can be one of two types (100-240V or 220-240V). If you get the latter, just change to the former when you get back to the states.

You might just need a travel converter, meaning a 3 pin on end and a two pin (and perhaps earth) the other...

Yeah, I was hoping that as well, but the listing of model below your literature about the adapter model is what’s throwing me off. I figured I’d have to buy the proper adapter in the US once I went back. I may just purchase one and see what the actual info says on the device once I get it.

The wall plug is the only different part between the US and UK versions.

The mains lead (in the US, two flat pins and in the UK three square pins at the wall) plugs into the Epson switched mode power supply which will take the 240VAC(UK) or 110VAC(US)and output the 24VDC to run the scanner.

You may not even need an adapter as the short mains lead is commonly available in both the UK and the US.

Hello:
I needed to to the opposite, that is to move from USA to Europe/Italy. I contacted Epson Inc. here in USA and they told me just to buy the correct adapter. Just do what shimokita has said and buy the Epson A461H.

The A461H is like many mains adapters these days which accept either mains voltage. You don't buy a plug adapter, you simply buy a new cable; in the uK it's normally called a Euro adapter, they don't seem to have a specific name in the US but are normally just a few dollars from a neighbourhood store. I have US, Euro and UK versions of these for my Macbook, Fuji adapter etc etc.

Just wanted to update that the V800 came in today and thanks to you guys I was confident in getting it and it will all work out. Easy enough to replace the figure 8 cable with a US one in place of the UK one when I go back home so need to even get an adapter box. Thanks again everyone.
