i have a relative going to Japan next week. if i get him to buy me an RD-1 retail and he brings it back i won't have to pay the $600+ import duty. this is legal in Australia, by the way, since i have checked it out...well for him to buy it for "himself"...!. it is still over A$2000. i have seen the RD-1 on the web at internet retailers but none will sell off the shelf, it seems.

does anyone have a resource in Tokyo or Kyoto for a retail off the shelf reseller for an RD-1 or RD-1s?

semi-excited in Oz.

Fujiya camera near Nakano station in Tokyo seems to have one for about 200,000 and change. I imagine the warranty will be Japan only.

thanks. ebay would mean coning in through customs. if my freind can get it for me from a store in japan that would be better.

steamer, i looked up the Fujiya site and did the google translation thing but i can't find the camera nor can i find a CONTACT link to send an email asking aobut the camera. i'll keep trying to find more ingormation. thanks all, so far..

At least Yodobashi camera (~ 241,000 Yen but you can get some discount via their point system) in Sapporo had still one or two last weekend, don't know about Tokyo or Kyoto. I bought mine here in Japan and it comes with the manual in Japanese and all software in Japanese. Warranty is valid in Japan only, so you have to sent the camera over to here. Foreign buyers, not being residents in Japan (staying shorter than 6 month) can get receive a tax refund (correct word ?) when showing their passport at the time of purchase.

You have to be a member and sign in to see any products on the fujiya site. I'm pretty sure they don't speak English.
I looked it up and they have it for 208,000 yen.
here is the map link:

Also looks like Map camera in Shinjuku has some but they don't give any price.

One of the places I like to buy used gear is Map Camera in Shinjuku.

They have a boatload of mostly used, but some new R-D1(s)

http://www.mapcamera.com/sho/search.php?MODE=M_VIEW&ACT=A_LIST&jan_code=4548056254023&reset=1

Go to http://www.mapcamera.com and click the "English" button near the top right part of the main page and that will open up a map for you.

I have a bought a lot of gear from them over the years (Including my own R-D1) and I have always been very pleased with it. The current best price they have on a used R-D1 is 175,000 yen. http://www.mapcamera.com/sho/search.php?MODE=M_VIEW&ACT=A_DETAIL&map_code=3070708001781&class=03

I second Map Camera

I second Map Camera

Got mine from Map Camera used and in excellent condition for 180,000...also picked up a great Artisan&Arist custom half case as well. They also have a great selection of used and new lenses down in the basement.

One of the best used camera and lens shops in Tokyo for all types of cameras and lenses.

I second the Matsuiya store recommendation.
I bought a ZI body from him and service was excellent.

My freind Bought my RD-1s in Japan in June 07 New.

It ended up costing $2200 Body only. My freind said

that the japanese don't like anything used. Everything

is New. I guess they ship used stuff out of the country.
The camera is great ! No complaints.
