buying 'bargain' bodies

This is my bargain M2 from KEH. Mechanically sound (even slow shutter speeds) vulcanite is perfect, there are some bright marks on the top plate and a ding near the viewfinder. There's a small chip of paint missing from the film door, but all windows are very clean. It's the only camera body I've bought from them, so YMMV. I wonder if modifications to it lowered the grade? It has M6 framelines and a quick load kit installed.

Check out the M-mount Leicas that KEH sells on Ebay from time to time. All the ones I've checked out so far had some chipped vulcanite, bright marks, scratches, dings, etc. Probably still within the "70%" condition that KEH quotes for Bargain condition cameras. Still, they don't appear to be the prettiest cameras in the world. Of course, you never really know until you buy from KEH.
