Buying film in bulk?

I've bulked rolled since the 70s. While living in Europe it saved a lot on price. I still bulk roll XP2 as i find the savings of about $2 a roll worth it. The downsides are, as mentioned, scratches and cannister ends popping open.

It also makes freezer storage much easier, if like me you tend to shoot a lot of film and buy in bulk.

I started exclusively bulk loading about 6 months ago. Film gets to be about half the price that way. I reuse old cassettes, leaving 3cm of the old film out when cutting the shot film for development, then just use Scotch tape to attach bulk film onto this lead.

I recently bought 700ft of HP5+ for about 24 euros (about 30 bucks) a piece. If I get about 18 rolls from each, that's pretty economical then!

And as I don't wet print any longer scratches are not really an issue, even if there is the odd scratch as I can clone them away in Photoshop.
