Hello,
This issue has probably been discussed numerous times but I wanted t ask for a little bit of advice. The vast majority of my film purchases are from online retailes such as BH Photo and Adorama. But for a long time I've watched eBay sales of film. The most attractive deals come from China (Hong Kong) but from my past eBay purchases from China I can say that it was a waste of money for me. Yet these purchases were limited to small electronic snd similar disposable items.
Now, when it comes to film, I don't have any experience with buying it from overseas. Does anyone actually purchase film online from other countries? Any good ad cheap sources of film out there?
Thanks

I would avoid buying film from overseas due to lack of control/information on how the film was stored and transported. There are enough excellent sources of good buys in the USA. Bill happens to have done the importing himself, so you can trust his personal input to make the film good for use.

Although I live in NYC and can buy film just about anywhere - for "bulk" purchases I use eBay.

I find that Hunt's Photo up in New England usually has great prices on relatively "fresh" film (i.e. at least a year prior to expiry date).

I recommend them - and have no connection to them. Just a satisfied customer.

I bought my 100ft roll of Neopan 1600 from Megaperls, and everything was fine. Otherwise, the cost of shipping from outside of the country negates any savings.

I generally buy my film locally, but occasionaly find deals on the web or through B&H or someone like that. I would cut off any mail order stuff in the summer months though due to the heat.

For my off sizes (minox,126,127), Macro brand(soon to be rollei) and for the Bluefire police film I use www.frugalphotographer.com Great customer service and he might be based in Canada his warehouse is in the States for quick shipping. I'm a very happy customer and have no connection other than that.

I find that comment a little unfair, even illogical. You are implying a lack of control by non-US dealers just because they are non-domestic.

As for the information on how the film was stored and transported, are you applying the same standards to your domestic purchases i.e. are you checking on this each time you buy film?

It seems you are a little prejudiced.

Dirk

PS: thanks for the mention, Peter & Kin Lau.

I use mostly old film, but any new film in my fridge was ordered from a Hong Kong-based eBay seller called KnotRC. His prices, especially for certain types of 120 film (when he has them), come out - even including shipping and insurance - lower than the prices in shops in the Netherlands, and I've never had any reason to complain about either quality or service....

If you are also a fan of Fuji film there is Megaperls. Excellent service with several shipping choices. The owner, Dirk is a member here also.

I live on the West Coast of the US and ordering from Megaperls overseas results in quicker shipping than ordering from Adorama and B&H. I can't recomend this store enough.

I bougth some FUJI rolls (35mm and 120) from Megaperls from Japan to Spain and it arrived fast and in perfect condition . The price, even with the shipping from the other side of the world, was much better than in Spain.
