Buying film online

When buying film online from places like B&H Photo, etc. how do you know you will get fresh in date film instead of short dated or out of date film?

If I order the fresh dated film and it is not received I return it with a note saying this is not what I ordered. I have not experienced this problem with B&H!🙂

I buy from BH. They have about the best prices. They sell not for the US market film very cheap. I've also bought short dated film on ebay at a big savings. Locally APS film is about $7 a roll. On ebay I pay about a buck. Stu

I bought a 100ft. roll of Tri-X from another supposed reputable online seller a couple of years ago and specified fresh in date. They sent me film that was nearly 2 years out of date. They were not going to let me return it till I filed a complaint with my credit card company who got my money back.

My local supplier has quit stocking bulk film and only sells by special order at a higher cost so I am looking for another seller.

Fuji discontinued bulk film in the last year. You might find some closeout deals. By all accounts, if B&W film hasn't been stored in a dumpster in a junk yard in El Paso it's good to use for a LONG time.

Recently I have bought Fuji bulk film directly from www.unicircuits.com Go into the shop to see all the Fuji stuff.

Dirk, who is a member of this forum, shipped my film so that I had it within an incredibly quick time frame, with the better shipping. I bought 100 foot rolls of Fuji Neopan 400 and 1600. He takes paypal.

It might be a bit early for closeouts on Fuji bulk film.

I wonder about shipping during the hot months..do they ship via refrigerated methods?? Maybe I should buy during the cold months to get me through the rest of the year..

A few days won't matter. It's coming by air not container ship through the Panama Canal. Buy several rolls, freeze them, and shoot them over a 5-10 year period. Frozen B&W film is good for a decade or more.

Karl's Cameras in Tyler has a bulk roll of T-Max 3200.

As long as I've used B&H I've never had a problem with film dating. The film I usually receive has been dated two and a half years out in some cases. I've been impressed with the film freshness. Good luck!

Whew, that's a relief. I was going to buy some just like that, but now I'll look for some that was stored in a junk yard dumpter in Houston instead, so it'll be fine 😀

Film is not like milk. It can withstand years of storage at normal temperatures and easily take a few weeks of storage in more extreme environments if necessary.
